Essence in atlas tree

Are essence nodes in the atlas tree additive or multiplicative increase? even when taking them such as Crystalline Growths which adds 100% chance I cannot find a single essence in 5 maps, how are you suppose to farm essences to either craft or sell for a profit when they don't spawn, the unique map is good but the rate to spawn is very low as well
