Skill gem system suggestion

Currently the skill gem system feels really clunky and bad to interact with, in my opinion. The core skill gem system in PoE1 is so damn good and I think this should be closer to that. So here's my rough idea of how to keep the good things from PoE1 and getting rid of what feels clunky from PoE2.

Scrap the whole cutting system, have skill gems drop as skills with the potential to drop with sockets, quality, levels and corruption. This makes gem drops way more exciting and give gems some potential trade value, instead of what we have now, which just feels like filler clutter once you have the gems you need.

Let skills gain xp to level up like in PoE1, this will help a lot with the somewhat frustrating progression curve during leveling as well. And it removes the process of picking up an item, click it in the inventory to open a different window where you have to pick the skill you want to level up. This process is just adding extra unnecessary steps to what used to be clicking "+" under your minimap, with the same end result.
