Dark Souls was described as "Punishing" because one mistake would force you to re-run the entire level from start.
Since then even From Software themselves pivoted away from that design and paced the checkpoints everywhere.
POE2's campaign doesn't have any punishments, literally nothing is taken away from you, if a werewolf kills you just respawn right there and try again. And when it comes to the rewards - my latest character looted 4 raw exalts right from the floor in Act 1. You don't expect 4 chaos orbs in Act1 of POE1, the raw currency drops are straight up higher than in POE1.
The lategame changes are all good, allowing the players to chose their difficulty with portals into the maps is good design, I'm not complaining about that, but sweeping nerfs to the campaign mobs were entirely unneeded.
We can agree to disagree then. My experience was nothing like you're explaining, and I play SSF. The loot is next to none, the power scaling of players to monsters is next to none - you get the idea. I refuse to replay the same sluggish game to only feel powerful every once in a long while among so many hours of gameplay. The replay-ability is not there. No way would I sign up for another few seasons of this, not even one more.
Playing SSF and complaining about the scarcity is like playing Hardcore and complaining about the difficulty.
In the trade league of POE 2 you could loot some good gear for another class, sell it, buy a weapon for yourself etc. If you're playing Warrior SSF you only want maces and everything else if trash to you, if you're playing trade you can sell the bows and crossbows, wands, staves etc and buy yourself a good mace. Trade league basically means all loot is valuable, not just for your class.
Not to mention all other stuff that drops like chaos orbs, GCP and the recycled blacksmith whetstones, armor scraps, vaal cores from the Ultimatum etc. there's so much loot other characters need.

That is exactly where the problem lies - I don't have currency to craft anything. Simple as that. Last patch I was able to craft items and work my way up to the top, not this time around

Bad luck, there weren't any loot nerfs.
I played several characters neither of them felt poor.
