I like the campaign more than end game
|
Like the title says. I like the campaign more than end game. Although, I'm only on my second character ever, I did play waystone end game last league or on release...however it is reoffered as. Anyway, I'm not quite done with the campaign right now but I wanted to give GGG credit in the areas where I really enjoy and wish they would pursue but apparently based on content creators and reddit...my opinion may be unpopular.
I want more campaign, and less end game! I want the campaign to end me at level 80+ and there only be a few tiers of waystones for over achievers. I like combining ssf style with trading but never being rich enough for it to be easy. I like how I'm forced to use combos to be the most powerful version of myself and I think that should be maintained through to end game. I don't like the speeding up of a3 already. I liked how long everything took. I liked the feeling that getting through a zone was an achievement. Not sure why people were so unhappy with it. Combos make every build completely unique. I'd like to see an effort toward maintaining them as a requirement for being able to do all content in order to be powerful without creating power creep. I think getting to end game and one button builds being easy to make also makes the end game quite boring. However, combos do seem keep scuffed builds viable through waystone 15. Are combos just there for people that don't like dealing with gear? I mean if you think about it, the damage output with combos and some scuffed gear is as powerful as a mirror tier build with one button type builds. These are based on my experience so far and my observations of various content creators. Last bumped on Apr 11, 2025, 8:30:47 AM

Campaign is nostalgic, campaign gives you a reason to go on and on. Story driven games gave meaningful purpose in the past. Now all games related to fast pace hack and slash.I remember the epic Dungeon Siege 2 with secret areas that even google couldn't reveal it and all players asked for them. Devs had innovative ideas of how an RPG game should be.

Maybe it's an old school thing but I feel like PoE1 should have the campaign sped up while PoE2 should be campaign and deliberate focused. I honestly feel the end game in PoE2 is just not nearly as good or as fun as PoE1 but the campaign might be the most enjoyable part. The way it is for me is that every character type seems to have to go through the same campaign differently than the other characters because of different combos, etc. If this game was purely focused on deliberate campaign elements, I think it would make this game different enough from PoE1 that it doesn't feel like it's PoE1 with less steps.
I guess i genuinely enjoy overleveling sometimes to get through an area or having to run through an area more than once. TBH I'd almost like it to be about making a character that gets through a campaign like a rogue like. It's SSF until you finish the campaign. I really think the deliberateness should be preserved and not thrown away to be more like PoE1. Last edited by MLongPoE#2384 on Apr 11, 2025, 7:54:23 AM

well, so far I can only stomach playing the campaign for 20-30 minutes before I get bored and frustrated, so I'm not sure I will get to see what end game is like this season, but if it worse than the campaign I should just stop now.

" So you don't see it the way I do I guess. I would say, I now see the game to be more zelda like than PoE1 was. Those frustrations make sense to me tbh. Like, retrying a boss 10 times. Farming an area 2 or 3 times to get stronger and just overpower the boss. We aren't supposed to save our currency. Use it. Farm gold to respec. Like, experiment till you figure it out. PoE1 has had the luxury of being out for so long, we take for granted what the game was like when it first came out. most people that play poe1 now and days don't even make their own builds. They copy other builds. Back in the day, we didn't have builds. This game brings back some of that element where everyone is back on the same playing field. The campaign, to me, is about using a combination of combos, passive trees, limited loot, limited currency, leveling and finding a way to win against the bosses or get stronger through grind. It's more like if zelda meets poe1 meets jrpg (overleveling, overfarming). I feel that PoE2 has a chance to be distinct from one shot ARPG's like PoE1 from start to finish. I look at it like it has rogue like possibilities where each character is a different method through the campaign and when you finish you get bonuses for your next run through. Imagine a campaign that was 80 hours? IDK maybe i'm day dreaming. There are changes that I'd like to see. I'd like to see a magic/rare mod that adds a rune socket. I'd like to see a movement speed rune exclusive to boots. I'd like to see less base types. It's making loot noisier than it needs to be. I'd, personally, like to see trade disabled until after the campaign is completed by your first character. I think every league start should be ssf.
