Should there be difficulty modes and/or settings?
After someone suggested I check out No Rest for the Wicked, I went to an IGN review of the game and stumbled upon a poll about difficulty modes.
Here are the results: Should games have difficulty settings? Yes, more flexibility for how I want or need to play is better. 75.6% No, everyone should share the same common experience. 21.4% Other - tell us in the comments. 3% source: (https://www.ign.com/articles/no-rest-for-the-wicked-review-early-access) The overwhelming 75% in favor of more flexibility clearly shows that most players appreciate the option to choose how they want to play. I’d like to suggest a similar approach to difficulty settings, much like in PoE1, where there were different leagues catering to varying playstyles—ranging from standard leagues to HCSSF. This allows players to enjoy the game how they prefer, without forcing one vision of the game onto everyone. The idea of “separation” often seems like an illusion from MMO mechanics, but in ARPGs like PoE, it’s worked without issue, and in fact, has led to record participation across all leagues, including Ruthless. As someone who enjoys a challenge, in its current state, PoE2 is starting to feel a bit boring for me. The lack of difficulty and challenge is making it harder to stay engaged, which is why I’m really hoping Ruthless gets added into PoE2. A more flexible approach benefits both casual and hardcore players alike, keeping the game exciting for all types of players. Last bumped on Apr 10, 2025, 7:19:53 PM
