Can't use two companions

I have the passive that allows the huntress to have two companions of different types but lowers your armor by 30%. I have a stone gorilla and a antelope charger. Both use different skills but is says, max number of companions reached. I have enough spirit to use both of them. Why can I not use two even though my passive lets me?
