Listening to the community too much is what ruined PoE 1 for many of us.

Unfortunately they wanted to cash in on the POE name but abandon the core principles of what POE was. Pretty disingenuous I feel. I was super excited when POE2 was going to be an 'extension' of the first game. Seemed like a true GGG decision. SHow appreciation for the support through the first game into the second. Unoftrunately this wasn't the way it ended up.
PoE2 could have been the D2 of diablo series but from the looks of it, it might become the D3 of PoE series ;)
PoE 1's massive longtime success from nothing is cuz they listened to their audience.

PoE 2 is riding on poe 1's wave and is getting a lot of traction for "free".

this 100000% if POE 2 released today as a brand new title without POE1 carrying it on its shoulders, it would of been dead on arrival and GGG would be locking the studio doors.
I fully concur with acaste7.

I consider their words mine own proxy.

Yep!

PoE1 survived and grew for 10+ years because of community feedback, not despite of it. GGG always had a pretty healthy balance between standing their ground or listening to feedback.

Now it seems like their attitude is "this endgame is a great idea no matter what the community says, and we refuse to go back to the drawing board to make something they think is good - because we are right".
The "Well" in town clicking feature is the Dev's current vision/thinking process.

and it's bad. and it will always be a bad feature.

when it gets removed. Poe2 will finally start becoming good.

It's called immersion.

Try it one time, you might start to appreciate the "art" behind the "thing".

:P
Thanks OP. Summed most of my thoughts on this issue.
