On Zizaran’s video declarations from Jonathan and Mark
I have to say again that I’m really worried how closed off Jonathan is to change the current state of the game the sensation through the whole interview was that his subjective view of what’s “fun to play” needs to be the only way you can play POE2.
Jonathan doesn’t seem to want for people to have options to play differently in the game in statements where “players shouldn’t be able to skip monsters otherwise is lame” “campaign should be fun to play” yes but by they fifth time it gets boring, he also said that the way to get regals it’s to disenchant but he also said he doesn’t want to give more rare drops because maybe it’s the monsters that needs to be weak, he doesn’t want players to move fast through the maps because that’s not fun for him. The main feeling is that his personal preferences and ola through experience are above what the community feedback says, they don’t hear anything on things like drops and they doubt the words of their players stating things like “we will add some logs get data and see if that true but if your unlucky then sucks to be you”. GGG has always been known for hearing their community but it feels that Jonathan is building the he perfect game for his personal taste of what’s fun rather than hearing the community. Mark was much more open to feedback and taking actions, so thank you Mark for that. Last bumped on Apr 9, 2025, 4:24:27 PM

The problem is mainly that you perceive Jonathan's opinion as somehow against the majority of the community and only for his benefits. But you literally quote the reason why you or me might be wrong. GGG has the objective data, we don't. All we have is subjective perception from our personal experience and the ones talking or making videos about it. This can very quickly create a distorted perception of reality as the majority is not voicing their concerns or like for the game, but the minority is.
And he's shown he is willing to change his stance when the community has a very good point and they can make the change without reworking too many things. The announced changes following the interview by Zizaran are proof of that. You need to give them the benefit of the doubt. If he said they will check the data again, they likely will and they also likely will make a change if they find something wrong. Last edited by RamzaBehoulve#2076 on Apr 9, 2025, 2:34:36 PM

" Nail on the head. Use telemetry. I was really pissed at Ziz (but when am I not honestly) because Jonathan for once was actually speaking out for me as a vet player. Last edited by Kaboinglefop#0955 on Apr 9, 2025, 3:04:29 PM

No, they must stick to a goal for the game and stick by what they mean it to be. They did listen to everything ziz said and they did adjust and concede on several occasions. But no, listening to feedback doesn't equal to let each one play as they like.
No game is made to please everyone and if you try you will fail to please anyone. This is true for everything in life. If you don't like this game, they are not required to make it likeable to you specifically. They set out to make a certain game and they're doing it. They are listening to feedback and they are adjusting but they thankfully won't agree with all feedback. |

" This is a fake statement a lot of games allow multiple game styles that adapt to the player including but not limited to POE1 you wanna run you run, you wanna tank you tank, you wanna flickerblade around you can, you want to go full minion or auto build walking simulator you can, there is freedom, which now we don’t have monsters are supposed to come at you faster than you so you can’t avoid them and you have no other option. Please avoid fake statements. |

While I think I fundamentally disagree with Jonathan on what constitutes 'fun' and 'engaging combat', he does seem open to understanding the POV of the players. GGG have historically been good at finding a middle ground solution to player demands and 'The Vision'. I have faith they'll turn this around and make the game better and more enjoyable for all.

" Yes, and in PoE2 you have several options like those, you just listed builds rofl. You listed nothing about core fundamentals of the game needing to cater to everyone's preferences. You say it like they dismissed all feedback ziz gave. No, they just stood their ground, accepted the feedback, gave it a lot of thought, explained why they are trying certain things, what different axis are involved and what they plan to do in response to the feedback. They're finding middle ground and not giving in to everything that is said. They are not pushovers trying to please everyone. They are correct. I'm glad to see they have clear goals and are receptive to feedback in a considerate way. What did you expect? "Hey I think this is bad" "Okay, I will fix it". No, lol. They are thinking people. They are able to listen and try to find where really is the problem and consider all the nuances and how does that work with what they're developing. That's literally what an intelligent person does. Listens, thinks, asks questions, finds middle ground, takes action or discards. |
