" I find that most players are sticking to narrow stereotypes, including "this is an ARPG, it's supposed to be played in a certain way". I approach PoE 2 like a roguelike. Whatever the loot RNG throws at me, I roll with. Vendors gave me an ok spear and ok crossbow for Act 1? I'm clearing humanoid white mobs "too fast" with Parry -> Fang -> Frag shotgun. Vendor gives me a 76% Inc Phys Dmg 1H mace at the end of Act 1? I swap half my skill gems to run Act 2 with spear/mace. Especially when a similarly decent 1H mace showed up so I dual wielded. Parry x3 -> Boneshatter is amusing, the more practical combat flow is to put other attacks inbetween the parries. People keep complaining mob run speed is too fast, I've yet to hear them say "despite using Earthquake or Spearfield, never mind both". I had an amusing dance with Jamanra's moving lightning rods, backpedaling with Explosive Spear and stepping forward with Molten Blast. Sure the boss fight was long as I hadn't upgraded my weapon or skills but vendors gave me so much Life gear I got over it (I did have to grind for a life flask that regens charges). Why didn't I upgrade? Because I was saving up to switch back to crossbow/spear. Vendor said my weapon upgrade is crossbow. Just had to get a few skill gems and off I go. Storm Lance + Scattershot -> Explosive Shot is killing white mobs "too fast" again. Especially when there's an artillery ballista, a companion with Hinder aura, Tactician's "every projectile does pin" perk and stormblast bolt making a kill zone. Felt it was too cheap so for a while I was using Barrage -> Glacial Lance (after somehow getting another frenzy charge inbetween). Which sets me back up for consuming a Freeze with Frag shotgun again, this time on a whole field of mobs. "The gold rolls in from picking up blues to sell. Heck, even white body armour if desperate. I just splurged 12k gold after the sun temple of Act 3 - to buy a 2H mace. I thought I'd be switching to quarterstaff at some point, guess that'll be for my alt (who is actually a huntress). Time to save up even more skill gems and see what I can do with Sunder this time. |

I played the game exactly as you all are describing in 0.1. While I mostly enjoyed my time, I did think the pacing was an issue already. Leveling up secondary characters made me feel that even deeper, and that's where the problem really lies for me.
I think we mostly want the same game, but I just would prefer something with a faster pace. Especially with the intended design of leagues meaning that this is a campaign that I'll be revisiting multiple times a year. |

" The campaign is only slow the first time you play it in a league. When you make your alts you have access to all the uniques you've collected, gold that you can gamble with for rare items, and access to the trade market with currency you've already collected if not playing SSF. | |
From the perspective of playing act123 for 16th time this kind of gameplay is just sad.

" Right, but you're ignoring the first play through each league, which is potentially 3-4 times a year. Besides, I found the alt runs to still be just a bit of a slog although the more leveling rares the easier that'll be. Again I just really think this is a minor difference in preference. The campaign was just too long for me to want to play from scratch multiple times a year. |
