Choatic Freeze support gem doesn't work with Cast On Freeze skill gem

Hi, title basically. When the hit that freezes the enemy is from cold spell, it works fine and I get increased Cast On Freeze energy, but when Chaos spell with Chaotic Freeze freezes the enemy I don't. Tried with the support gem on Contagion and Despair.

If the freezing hit is Essence Drain it actually works, but with Dark Effigy it doesn't... Is it disabled on purpose or what's going on?

Do actions performaed by totems usually count towards your actions for meta gems so you gain energy for that? To me, if it says "gains Energy when you Freeze enemies", freezes from totems shouldn't give you energy.
