Class Fantasy as range class in POE2 not fulfilled
And why mainly ? Because mobs are 24/7 on top of you as range class. Sad that GGG didnt address monster speed at all.
Lets say you decide to play a bow class, what would be the fantasy ? To be all the time in melee range because you cant kite / cc mobs ? Compare that to lets say Diablo2. As a Bowazon you are fragile but with multishot and some cold dmg. you can slow down mobs on mass. You also have knockback, a valkyrie/pet and a decoy. And you also have passives to dodge melee and also range attacks, and some other tools like "Slow Missles" (slowing all enemy projectiles down by alot) In other words you have alot of tools to kite and stay away from mobs and/or evade and yet if you are not careful you also can die quickly. Thats exactly what I always loved about D2 balance. Lets take another example as fire sorceress in POE2. Mobs will be always on top of you and just run in circles as "defense", sorry but thats silly. No real "Frostnova" as CC, no "Black Hole" to suck in mobs etc., nothing. Thats also a big level of element missing from combat. Compare that again to D2, you could freely teleport without a CD and slow and freeze mobs. Of course I understand that GGG wants POE2 to be slower than D2 or POE1, and thats totally fine BUT that doesnt mean you dont give the player options to handle situtations by kiting, CCing, dodging etc. Thats also why I didnt like FF14, cold spells didnt slow, it was just for mana regeneration, completly boring. Compare that to WoWs frost sorc, such a huge difference in gameplay. I cant enjoy this game playing a range class and then running around in circles in melee range while monsters are always on top of me, thats not fun and it doesnt fulfill the range class fantasy. Huntress (short) I dont want to be forced to play half melee / range and parry etc. This would have been totally fine as Ascendancy but not as standard play. DONT FORCE people to a playstyle like Diablo3 did with Sets. My Huntress class fantasy is to play as an Amazon with range spear skills, laying traps and maybe a sabre tiger who can tank for me etc. I simply want to play something like a D2 Javazon, just from range and if I WANT have the OPTION to also have some melee. Completely disappointed with the playstyle, especially the parry/gain charge mechanic is complete /yikes. Last bumped on Apr 7, 2025, 1:59:57 AM

I think the most important thing you said here is that you don’t want to be forced into any style of play. To me, that’s a large reason of why the first game was so much fun. You could choose and had many options that were viable amongst all characters. Also that ascendancies actually matter and are truly powerful. POE 2 is absolutely filled with lackluster mechanics and a base game that seems to punish people for not playing the intended way.

" For me it's a good thing. Classes have clear identity on PoE 2 and limiting player's options makes creating a build much easier. Also more reasons to try different classes. |
