Enemy at the gate.

My quest log reads as follows
"Enemy at the Gate" Quest Complete - You have slain Hillock. Tarkleigh has rewarded you with a Skill Gem. However there is no way to complete this quest and I did not get the skill gem. The quest still shows as "Colored" in my quest log. Thank you for reading. | |

Talk to Tarkleigh and click on the 'claim hillock reward' or something like that.

Had this problem today as well, finding that chat option seemed to fix it. Is the quest just not finishing on it's own or did we just click past the loot the first time around?

The latter; the quest only counts as completed on your Quest log when you accept a reward. If you click past the reward screen or click the Choose Later option, it will remain on the Talk to XYZ for your Reward part of the quest.
For story progression, it counts as completed by just reaching the reward part and talking to that person, so you can progress the story without accepting rewards. (I hope that doesn't sound entirely dumb; I swear it makes sense :P ) |

" When you talk to the correct NPC, there are a list of topics at the top which are just conversations and lore stuff.. then there is a separator and more stuff. The stuff under that separator (above the purchase/sell items options) are the quest rewards. If you click them it should give you the option to redeem that quest reward if you haven't already. The key is to make sure you talk to the right NPC and select the correct quest reward options (you can try them all just to be sure) |
