Explosive Spear not sticking into enemy

Currently when I throw an explosive spear at an enemy the spear just drops to the ground and sits there before exploding.

It seems rather obvious to me that the pointy stick should.... stick to the enemy when I throw it at them.

If the enemy has metal armour or something then sure it makes sense if it bounces off but it seems like a major missed opportunity for the pointy stick to not stick to the enemy before it explodes.
