Dead Mouse -> Dead Hardcore Marauder

This post is a warning to fellow Hardcore players. On the night of the 3rd July 2012, I suffered a terrible loss that could have been avoided.

While traipsing through Ruthless Mud Flats, my wireless mouse decided to kick the bucket. This is just as several zombies and Rhoas began to circle me. After a second or two of panic, I resorted to turning off the computer manually - holding the power button. Alas, the time to hold was long enough for the creatures to dispatch me.

Be safe! Use a wired mouse or keep a well-powered wireless mouse, turn off background processes, and never look away when playing Hardcore.

Varatt the Marauder will be missed (continuing play in Default league simply isn't an option).
Turning off the power is very very dangerous for your computer (especially if you run on windows) and should have been avoided.

Anyhow, you could've just alt+f4 out of the game or opened the task manager and terminated the process.
You could've pressed alt+F4 instead of a manual turnoff.

Either that or the power supply off button, contrary to popular belief, it does not cause any harm to today's computers 99% off the time, recent power supplies have built in countermeasures, as well as motherboards, which correct current and keep everything in check to avoid power surges and short circuits.

In the 1% offchance that your computer doesn't turn back on, reseat the RAM or pull the cable and wait overnight, and that mostly solves it.

Of course this sometimes doesn't come to mind in the heat of the moment.

Sorry for your loss man, having your mouse kick it during a hardcore game must be like winning the russian roulette. Some crappy odds, and the price is dying.

But i've pretty much always heard between us gamers that wiresless mice are too much of a hassle. That and they're more prone to crapping up, and are usually harder to fix, this one comes from experience.

In a wired mouse it's usually either the cable or the board connection, little bit of solder and a steady hand and your mouse is like new.

If it's a crapped up wireless transmitter, you have to buy a new similar wireless transmitter circuit, if it even is available locally, or you have to order one through specialized spares websites if a compatible model is not available through your standard electronics store.

This game alt+f4's like a champ. Definitely do that next time.
Dead mice, connection hiccups, lag, unresponsive keyboards, and so on have claimed probably tens of thousands of hardcore characters since the days of Diablo 2. That's just the way it is. Sorry for your loss.
That's why you never use a wireless mouse.
Especially on hardcore. :P

oh the good old days.... when the newest Diablo was a game to play.

but yah i hate wireless gaming stuff... the only counsel i have wireless for is my gamecube but only because they came with it... i have like 7 wired controls for my gamecube even tho it only has 4 connections. >.<
We can't solve problems we can't talk about...
Hahaha, manual PC power-off? That's such an insanely knee-jerk reaction. I am lol'ing, because I do ridiculous things in those sorts of situations too.

Yeah, 20/20 hindsight shows us that a disconnection of your modem or a quick alt+F4 would've been better.
