So close...but the honor system is a deal breaker. Terrible design in an otherwise great game.
GGG is clearly trying to make the game better for their players. I get that. But the honor system is genuinely terrible game design. It fundamentally goes against the other things they stated they want/didn't want.
* It basically incentives you to only build the most op, instant screen clear builds because no other aspect of your character helps you clear the level other than clearing monsters with one button. Yes, there is skill, but to go without even getting hit, not just dying, but getting hit, is baffling inept when they did so many other things well. Literally no aspect of defense matters because if you get hit, even if you have health, recovery, recoup, leech...whatever it is...none of that matters. They talk about how they keep in death penalty and 1 portal because they want there to be a reason to learn how to survive. I get that. But putting in a penalty for even getting hit is awful design. They build in a mechanic that gives the player almost no control over their destiny beside a handful of relics. * And they claim they make their bosses harder so you have to learn the mechanics, but how am I supposed to learn? Spend a ton of time just endlessly going through the same s*** so I can get one shot by a boss because I lost honor? Are you kidding me. There is nothing about replay value or learning mechanics in that kind of system because there are so few chances to practice and the slog to get to the practice is so exhausting. So yeah, I'm out. I don't like the death penalty, but I can adapt. I don't like the 1 portal thing, but I can adapt. I can't adapt to the honor system. That is the deal breaker. If it stays, I don't play. " Oh boy... It's a good thing you stopped at honor, because you accidentally just summarized the entire endgame design. GGG has some... Interesting design decisions. |

Honor is just another prove the game is balanced around zoomed oneshot clearings.

In the end, the honor issue was resolved. However, the boss on the fourth floor killed me instantly with the clock gimmick, regardless of honor or HP. Even though I had prepared in advance, the hourglass was placed far away and I couldn't make it in time.

" [Removed by Support] Or maybe they are just confusing personal task with bad design... hard to tell, maybe the rest of the post will explain which it is. " [Removed by Support] Screen clearing helps exactly how again? No rooms have insane swarms of mobs to kill, but single target damage for the bosses can be helpful (which most builds good at clear are not good at single target). You can definitely get hit, just not too many times. That's kind of the whole point of the trial, it's a battle of attrition where your choices add up as you move further and can either make it easier or harder for you. " [Removed by Support] Also, of course, getting hit once does not end your run (it just makes things harder). Unless you specifically are using the relic that gives the greatest reward for actually not getting hit at all. " There's that skill part again, players have immense control over how things play out in Sekhema. How do you think there are people that consistently farm it (even no-hit runs)? Do you think those people just have the best luck in the world? " Funny, that's how the rest of us managed to learn. Sekhema is pretty forgiving in that regard, failure due to honor loss is NOT a death (no XP loss) so it's actually one of the easiest places to keep learning the mechanics for little cost. You'll gain a ton of levels in the process too! If there was no replay value, please explain why there are people that specifically farm Sekhema... there must be a reason they are doing it. " Well, probably for the best then. Hopefully whatever game you try next will be more to your liking. Last edited by Vash_GGG#0000 on Jan 20, 2025, 2:14:02 PM

" A lot of effort put into saying "git gud". You're an experienced player and may like this in the game but a lot of people don't like that it's forced on them to progress. I don't like it and personally won't play until its removed its a chore, it's not fun, and there are better things to do than play cat and mouse avoiding hits in an arpg. |

" One thing that is common on feedback is when people talk about "terrible design" or "bad game design" Its only bad or terrible because they struggle or died to it. Mash the clean

It was always terrible design, the egregious part is that Ascendancy is locked behind it.
It's totally fine if there is something different as optional content. This implementation was a horrible decision. |

There is something wrong with that boss on the last floor, his mechanics are not the issue, but the fact that I fought him for 15 minutes on a Warrior and I've hit him around 100 times with Perfect Strike (charged attack) coupled with fire curse and fire exposure (-70% fire res) and he still managed to survive with 10% hp. I can melt other bosses in seconds, also the trial was under my level.
What the hell is this inconsistent design? How are Spark builds and other able to delete him in 3 seconds? |
