PoE2 Should have Imbalanced Guard
Even though this keystone does not see a lot of utilization in PoE1, I actually think this might be the node to kind of "solve" the armour debacle.
Currently, in PoE2 it is pretty hard to cap ele resists and people are complaining that armour is not doing enough for the amount of investment of passive skill points it requires to be relevant. For example, I can get to 10k - 20k armour but need to invest anywhere between 10 and 20 points of my passive skills to get to that point. The issue being that my survivability has not actually gone up all that much. The reason being that my one shot potential is still pretty low. Armour currently is designed to deal with a lot of small hits exceptionally well. The issue here being that block does the same thing more efficiently. Armour and block should not be solving the same issue. In fact, i think this is why armour feels bad in addition to it being bad mathematically or opportunity cost wise. If block solved big hits and armour solved small hits or vice versa then I would feel really good about investing in armour and block. As it stands, I would rather just solve small hits with block and life on block and basically be naked armour wise. With that being said, Imbalanced Guard, a Node on the tree or an armour item that makes a percent of armour apply to elemental damage, and some points invested would make the warrior feel pretty cozy. Anyway, it seems to be an on brand node to bring into PoE2 - we have avatar of fire, chaos inoculation, pain attunement, Mind over matter, blood magic, etc. We could add in Imbalanced Guard - even as a meme - and it would get used by somebody (ME!). It would just be so efficient that people would wonder why anyone did not want to use it. With that being said, even when I solve my physical damage taken with armour or with cloak of flame (I am a masochist and tried armour stacking) it wasn't physical damage that was killing me. On death effects and elemental damage seem to be the one shot KOs that matter. My only qualm with armour at this point is not that it is bad - it's actually really good - it's that why spend all your points on that when phys hit is not the thing killing me? Cloak of flame and time of need for the win. Last bumped on Jan 17, 2025, 2:20:29 AM
