Encourage more build diversity with one Jewel
I had an idea tonight and wanted to share just to put it out there. I was thinking of the passive tree for the atlas in POE 1 and how it had nodes that allowed you to pass from one side of the tree to the other without connecting fully. This enabled different end game atlas builds for players.
I think it would be a great mechanic to bring to character passive trees in POE 2 with a few specific tweaks to make it functional and help balance the power it would enable. Create a Jewel, unique and limited to 1 per character, that can be placed in any jewel socket on the passive tree. This would give NO stat benefits, but would unlock all other jewel sockets so the player could select ONLY 1 other jewel socket anywhere on the board to "connect" to from the socket the jewel is in. From there the player could path as normal from the other socket, basically enabling a single "split" in their passive tree build. This creates a power sink of 2 passive points for 0 stat benefit but enables a ton of additional build variety with relatively (assuming the coding can be made) little effort. Depending on how powerful this is the Jewel could also be gated behind high level content to make it tougher to find. I think this would be a great addition to the passive tree system that would open a ton of new options for players. Last bumped on Jan 17, 2025, 12:14:31 AM
