Exp Lost After Level 89 and MF Necessity
|
The experience curve required to level up past 89 is absolutely ridiculous! And when you die and lose 10% of your experience, it becomes even more absurd because it means you've lost hours of gameplay. For casual players, this loss represents days of progress since many of us can barely manage to play 2 hours a day—if that!
Then comes the veteran PoE player who says, "It's a skill issue," and claims that PoE isn’t meant for casual players. Does GGG share this view? Because it makes no sense to invest in the late game under these circumstances. First, there's the punishment of losing experience. Then, you're punished with having only one portal available. As a result, the game doesn’t incentivize you to improve your character. It’s more worthwhile to remain underpowered while running with 300+ MF than to actually try to improve your gear, face bosses, and tackle challenging content. Last bumped on Jan 16, 2025, 8:29:57 AM

this post is pearls before swine. Dont waste your time pointing out how illogical it is.

This is sad...

I'm expecting like 95% of the people that will try PoE 2 will quit the game after the acts just like PoE 1 had.
Maybe GGG will realize this before they copy-paste PoE 1 into PoE 2, but I doubt it. |

Yeah there needs to be some huge changes to endgame. They dumbed down a lot of things to make the game more "accessible" to new players. But then you have single TP, 10% exp loss. You're forced to do maps you don't want to do. Before you could juice maps from hideout, now you have to fight your way to a tower, then do the map types you have zero interest in.
There also needs to be something like tier 25 maps. Level 79-81 monsters are not high enough. |

Honestly the exp loss is completely taking the fun out of the endgame for me.
It takes hours to get the 10% and in one moment, a single second of not reacting fast enough, an unfair oneshot mechanic or just some unlucky enemy combination and you lose hours of progress. I can live with the Waystone and modifier loss, it's annoying but I can live with it, but the exp loss is making me reconsider if I even want to play the game anymore. |

+1 Horrible design enjoyed by masochists and pushed on all players.

Played poe 1 for years and have been playing poe2 since release I've never ever had a level 100 character ever since I started playing, and I've also never had any trouble doing the most difficult content at level 85-90, progressing to 100 isn't going to change your power level at all, the difference is 10-15 skill points, which isn't enough to fix most people's dying issues. If it were you could respec out of damage a few points and into defense and no one would even be complaining. Better gear and working on your current skill point allocation is the problem. Max level maps are only like level 81.
Level 100 isn't even something the most hardcore players achieve after 1000's of hours in the game. And it's not necessary anyway you can do everything the game has to offer without ever getting there. It'll be funny to see it get easier then people get to 100 and still complain because they haven't gotten any progress from 85-100 still. " Bless you. Exp lost does the opposite of what you want to do in games which is risk (try things where you have a chance of losing.) Unfortunately, GGG seem to be in their ivory towers looking down on us peasants. In this specific case would be "Isn't that part of the fun is the risk of losing a lot? It's so much fun, we love it." (When they can spawn whatever they want in the game, and place themselves at any level of progression instantly.) The difference between us and them is we have to actually play and work for our gear. These things are really important to us personally. To GGG they can cheapen their experience at any point since they are not emotionally connected on that level with progression. If you brought up to someone that you could have negative progression in ANY game. They would likely not play or abandon the game shortly after starting. It's never felt good, it never will, because the intentions of what the player has is "just to have a good time and play a game a little bit. Progress a little here, and at least feel good that I did "ok". GGG's view of this is you are not suppose to feel good. You should be stressed, and you should be punished for any minor mistakes you make in the game by losing 2-8 hours of "progress." It isn't a matter of 100 or not isn't what should be achieved. That's a players goal and stopping them from being able to achieve something is not going to turn out well when you essentially tell them that they're losers and you suck too much at this game to hang with us. That's the energy that GGG is pushing whether even if they say the opposite. Another league or whatever, wouldn't fix this. We're not hardcore, it's softcore. You could name it kindergarten league. It's what we want to play and whatever the very small minority think on it is irrelevant. Games naturally lose their player base and decline when they don't service the thing that players care about (content.) That's their job. It's not to be a parent and show all our flaws as a player when we were told this game would be different. |
