Wont let me login via epic?

ok so i Linked my epic account here inside of the game launcher - and it says I need to purchase access? A friend gave me one of his spare beta keys on epic, and it wont let me login? It told me to link my epic games account, I did - then it told me to buy access, I am confused and wondering how to fix it?

Also - I downloaded the game via giving epic games app the key, it gave me the download - I cannot play, I was excited to check this out but this is odd!
