The Truth About PoE 1 Versus PoE 2
We like PoE 1 better. We still love PoE 2. It's not as good.
Why are we all still playing PoE 2 then? - The player base is here. Economies make or break MMOs. What is better about PoE 1? - Auras - League Mechanics - Atlas - Atlas Passives - Crafting - Trade Site Functionality If we were simply given this graphics engine in PoE 1, I would be more pleased with the outcome. Still love this game and am playing it right now. If this graphics engine and the player base was on PoE 1, I wouldn't be playing it. Last bumped on Jan 10, 2025, 1:34:31 PM

" This is not THE truth. This is your truth. My truth? I think PoE2 is superior to PoE in almost every aspect. I absolutely hated the crafting in PoE. Auras were way too strong and groups benifited from it way too much. And complaining about league mechanics is weird. You didn't expect EA to have a league right from the start, right? Because that would be stupid. And the trade site is basically the same, I don't understand this. Sure, it needs balancing but don't forget that: - it's version 0.1, not 1.0. - it's early access - the game has been out for 4 weeks - more than half of the skills are missing, limiting build diversity - there's only a couple of uniques, more will be added - we're still missing half the characters - we're still missing the 3rd ascendancy class - balancing takes time - skills can be tweaked |

EASY ANSWER IS EVERYTHING IS BETTER IN POE 1 this feels like a demo vs early access. This game has been in development for a long time and they have poe 1 as reference to what ppl like and they missed the mark BIG TIME

The trade site is lacking a ton of functionality. I've made a separate post about some of the major things that are missing.
When I said league mechanics, I mean breach, delirium, expedition, ritual, sanctum, strongboxes, etc. Different people like different league mechanics. Personally, I really enjoy harbinger and abyss. Neither of those made it into EA, and I'm not sure if they'll be in the game at all. Sanctum has a niche audience, and a lot of people don't like having to run sanctum for ascendancy points. All of the points @gimatria#7361 mentions are obvious, and not a part of anything I am saying are downsides. I didn't mention anything about balancing, missing characters, items, ascendancies, or skills. |

Also: I absolutely hated the crafting in PoE. Auras were way too strong and groups benifited from it way too much.
These are your opinions, as you so obviously stated that this thread is my opinion. I doubt many people feel like auras are too strong or groups benefit too much from them, and this is completely beside the points I was making in the first place. I'm talking about the absence of all of the aura mechanics people love, like purity of elements, determination, discipline, malevolence, grace, anger, etc. For example, if this game had purity of elements and malevolence, my build would run them. However, the way they've changed auras, it seems like "purity of ___" auras have been moved to caster weapons and don't affect the person with it equipped, meaning I couldn't use purity of elements for myself even if it existed. Perhaps malevolence is a missing skill and it will be added later. Again, missing skills was not part of my point to begin with, it's how auras work. |

" you have to be kidding. poe2 is early access i know. there will be changes and balancing and more content, i know. but still, if i compare the things that are in place right now, poe1 wins out by far, not even close. im not talking about campain because its only half there. visuals are stunning and combat itself feels great in poe2. but besides that, everything is worse compared to poe1. - build diversity is much worse - gem system is gates behind acts, levels and drops - endgame forces me to do 80% map layouts i dont want to do - getting mechanics i want on maps is random - towers are terrible - strongboxes are terrible - ritual is much worse, boss rng gated - expedition is much worse, boss rng gated - 1 portal instead of 6, content gone on a single death - no specialization on atlas tree for certain mechanics, everybody skills everything, everybody has pretty much the same skilltree - xp curve is worse overall - being dependent of vendors to get some upgrades for gold feels bad - searching for citadels for hundrets of hours feels bad - progression on mechanic feels backwards and bad, should be easy to start with and getting harder over time, not the other way around - trials are horrible, unbalanced for classes and heavily rng dependent - 80% of map layouts are horrible and full of dead ends and backtracking - crafting was pretty much deleted. now its throwing currency into the void and hope for a miracle - alterations gone, instead of spamming them we are spamming bases. its the same thing but more tedious - essences without tiers are pretty much garbage in poe2 - non replacable runes instead of crafting bench is worse - affix tier system is worse now, should be tier 1 = best i could go on with this list with a bit of thinking and im pretty sure you wont find a few things that are for the better in poe2 at the moment. i know, there will be many many changes, but for now i only can talk about the actual state of the game. |

Tencent forced them to make another game instead of upgrading PoE 1.
Now they have to create something for the masses guided by tencent profit needs. It will take some years untill they realize the failure and turn back to design thad made PoE 1 the biggest ARPG of the decade. Reality sucks sometimes. |

The biggest thing stopping me going back to PoE1 is not being able to use skills while moving. Feels incredibly stunted
Would I prefer if they updated everything about PoE1 as it currently stands only with the much better graphics, UI, flask system, and smooth movement? Absolutely. But I can see PoE2 is unfinished, and honestly, there are several other games I'd play before PoE1 at this stage because 2 has somewhat peeled away the layers to reveal just how aged 1 feels in comparison I might go again next season, depending on how slowly updates here come and how good the new season mechanic is, but I'm not really planning on it |
