Feedback after 300 hours - aka taking a break till game is improved
So after 300 hours and 3 characters to 90+ I'm taking a break from POE2. I am just finding the endgame to be tedious and honestly it's not fun. I'm not gonna give general feedback for classes etc because that's been done to death by others and by this point GGG know what the issues there are.
General Feedback: Trials is honestly ok. I think the setup and how it feels like a side quest of sorts needs addressing. In the first game it felt like a genuine event. In POE2 it feels like an after thought. Since the melee buff its been pretty ok otherwise. Ultimatum on the other hand is garbage. The debuffs are too harsh, rewards are crap and the tornado bird boss is overtuned massively for the first 3. The 4th being as difficult as it is i don't have issues with as you are supposed to be 80+ by the time you attempt it anyway. There's something wrong with the game client. Performance is fine on my machine for the most part: 13900K & RTX4090 but once a day the client will completely exit. Stress tested my machine and finding no issues. Off the back of the sheer amount of threads people are posting with their own concerns I am generally drawn to the conclusion something is broken. Your trading system NEEDS change. I've been playing POE since 2011 and since then I've never understood the requirement for outside intervention, be it from POE.Trade back in the day or now the trade website.. Just move that stuff into the game itself with instant buyout options like on console. Your website is getting hammered by bots sniping everything on there because you are handling it online through an API lol. Move it into the game to at least give the actual players of the game a chance. All you are achieving by the current method is RMTers have the perfect way to make money, shit they can make a character, get to the first town and just sit there sniping items and make mirror levels of currency. Fix it, it's shite. General Endgame Feedback: Six portal bandwagon. This isn't dark souls, stop trying to make it dark souls. difficult ARPGs don't work because there is literally no skill other than click click click. People are here for the loot and progression, not to be punished because you didn't know a insta-death mechanic was happening. It's hard to learn the game if it doesn't allow you to make mistakes. Waystone system in general feels bad. The UI is unusable. Zoom levels are weird. There's no way to have an overview. No way to track progress. No instruction on how any of it actually works. Towers favor maps further away from them for some reason and are bricked if you die but you still have to run them again to progress, this is bad design. Citadels - Only seen 1 in 600 maps. This was my breaking point if I'm being honest. After so many maps I finally found a citadel. Started the map, everything was going fine and then it wasn't. Map bricked, better luck next time kid. This system is absolute shit and why I'm putting the game down. I'll get onto it in my next point but 1 'mistake' should have such a messed up penalty. On-death effects can fuck right off - you're better than this. Doing Citadel map finally. Mob explodes, gg game over. This obsession needs to end. Monsters shouldn't have like 8 different insta-kill on-death effects in their mod pools. It's kinda sad that GGG think this is the solution to player power. It's cheap and nobody has ever agreed it belongs in the game. The elemental effects with the growing circles that eventually explode are absolute fine and honestly the only implementation of that mechanic im ok with. The rest need to go in the bin. Final Thoughts: I have no motivation to carry on with this game until there's a big steer in direction. It's a great base of a game but the implementation of the end game and obsession with difficulty doesn't belong in the base game. I want this game to do well. The thousands of hours I've sank into your games hopefully proves that but there needs to be big intervention. Peace out and see you all on the beach when we get the first league. xoxoxox This post was sponsored by me.
