Trading completely invalidates my motivation to play game. SSF loot is bad.

"
SSF should be the game mode.

Then you can go harder with hardcore.
or
Go easy mode with trade league.

Trade for people who just want to gear up burn the game and move on.
SSF for those who enjoy the loot hunt and craft.
Hardcore for those who like to nail their foreskin to the wall.

+1000!!!! :D :D :D (copying this post if you don't mind for my SSF Thread..lol)

Diablo 2 is one of my all time favourite games, and I never once engaged with trade in that game. Everything I did was SSF, and part of that was because when I was playing, I knew that if I did 1000 Andariel runs, I would get a SOJ. If I did enough Diablo runs I would get high runes. If I did enough Baal runs I would get _______. And so on.

Having decent magic find on gear was important for finding good loot faster, especially for SSF.

In POE2, for a good while I was just picking up pieces of gear that I thought had a chance to be good for my character. Check them out, slam if they're ok and hope for better. After a while I had about 10 exalts and decided to finally check out the trade site.

I found better pieces than I had thus far been able to craft, and found the trade site incredibly easy to use, especially since I run POE2 on my PS5 and keep my laptop open with trade when I'm looking for gear to buy.

That led me to grind for exalts to buy gear, and resulted in me ignoring a lot of drops for a good while, just zeroing in on exalts and hopefully a divine so I can buy more stuff. Eventually as I was playing I would find an item and pop it in the trade stash tab, and a few times I got messages and sold some gear.. that was the beginning of a whole different understanding and interaction with the game for me.

Since then, I realized that one of the best ways to get exalts to buy gear is to pick up a wide variety of pieces, even gear that isn't for my character, searching for a piece with decent base stats so I could slam it and put it on the market.

Now, looting gear isn't necessarily about finding a great piece for my character and my character only. After all, I'm not playing a solo game, even though I play solo 99% of the time. My horizons have expanded to any piece that has good stats for anyone.. and the excitement of drops has increased exponentially since I'm not just looking for a few select pieces that my character can use, I'm looking for any/all pieces that can be good for anyone.

As a monk I pick up a 2h mace, it has decent stats, I slam it.. it rolls well, bam, that mace is gonna sell for 5-10 exalts etc etc. Jewels, boots (boots with good movement are easy to sell), weapons, gloves, helmets etc for any class.. if I pick it up and it starts out decent - slam it and put it on the market. if it doesn't, vendor.

I've sold stuff for 1 div, 20-30 exalts, 40+ exalts etc etc. jewels sell for 5 exalts pretty easy and pretty often.

I build up 2 million gold? Vendor amulets. everything decent that isn't a great new piece for me is a great new piece for someone, and can help me along the way to getting a great new piece.

Anyway that's my two cents.. Never used trade in one of my favourite games of all time, (didn't get all the gear I wanted/hoped would drop.. far from.. but enough to get by) and started using trade in this one, and found it so easy and convenient that it improved my overall excitement and appreciation of drops of a massive variety rather than the limited scope of the exact pieces I'm looking for.

They seem to have hinted that further developement and new mechanics they will implement over time (game is 50% of what it will be in the end) will "resolve itself" aka there will be more meaningful ways to craft/add stuff. I feel absolute lack of deterministic crafting or target farming is the core of your issue here.

But yeah, go trade for now since its yolo crafting. You still had to farm your currency to buy upgrades so its not like youre getting freebies.

Think it should be buffed/nerfed...? :):)

this is exactly why i am in favor of heavily restricted trading

when trading is the most optimal path for gearing.. then no one is going to play the game..

"but gear has to come from some where.. so people have to play"...

it really only takes a few streamers and grinders to provide tons of gear into the market place. most of the people who trade off materials for their gear are not going to be active in the trading market once they gear up even if they find items worth trading. all the care about is blasting for a while until they are bored. they dont need more gear outside of their initial gear for their character that season

Youre wrong, dont touch trade league, nor will they. It would literally kill the game in an instant. Trade league is fun, farming content you like, trading off the profits of said activity and finding upgrades is core loop for most poe 1 players. I dont know where your statistics are comming from or your thesis of "no one is going to play" but its just not true, poe 1 is build around and messuring "divines per hour" and optimizing farming strats. You add chase items that cost ungodly amount of divines like mageblood thats ultra rare end game unique costing 300+ divs while you farm 3-7 divs an hour and its very fun game.

SSF is basically league for people who like that challange or have a lot of time to play the league. You will get eventually to same power level and do all end game content but much slower then trade. Difference is in poe1 you can target farm items or crafting materials for builds, specialize in one or the other way of farming content and repeat until you have enough currency to craft what you need. We dont need to reinvent the wheel. But you comming for everyone elses fun and restricting whats core of what we like about poe rubs me the wrong way

I see youre new to poe, welcome, its not a dig but some people and core audience of free to play game are people who dont have as much time as you seem to have, its not easy vs hard issue, its time issue. You will get same outcome eventually if you play enough, it will just take 10x more time, What you need is target farming and deterministic crafting like in poe1, not "more drops"

(btw. can you not see irony of "i dont want to play easy mode, but i want you to make my hard mode into easy mode by giving me more lootz"?)
You see, its not the trading at fault here

Its the inability to even targetted craft a single modifier on equipment, the closest to it is essences.

But you can't put a certain select modifier on your gear, all of the crafting is randomized now, and that, that is what makes trade so OP.

While a non trading person struggles doing no damage and dying all the time, a person who trades multiplies their damage each level and gains escalating amounts of survivability.

This is not a fault of OP skills, or OP passives, or OP uniques, but GGG seems to think it is.

GGG doesnt realize that it is solely the fact that, like always, crafting is hideous.

In POE 1 it was the impossibility to craft a 6l without 24/7ing the game due to the insane requirements for currency, in POE 2 the showstopper is the absolute absence of ANY crafting whatsoever.

And GGG doesn't even recognize my plenty of advice i have posted here, since I am not a that large of a Streamer and I didnt buy a supporter pack, they don't take my advice. My advice is to make me lead designer for a year, i would whip GGG into shape so they deliver a truly amazing product.

The current course with the current dev team and lead team leads nowhere but a gigantic fail.

Um... what makes you think I'm new to PoE2...? Lol

Maybe I can make the same assumption that you're new? Lol, I mean Trading is ez mode LOL :P :P

Your "10x more" is exaggerated perhaps. Though some have been called "masochists" in interviews w/ GGG...lol.

How do you feel though? When you have that Traded gear and use it?

Personally, it feels..."icky"...lol.
