Manifestos are bad for businness and should never be used in a workplace

Let me start with a little background.

I used to work at a very successful company. The CEO was an enthusiastic and brilliant person, very similar to Chris Wilson. He also shared his passion for manifestos, we took hours long meetings, so he could explain their importance and why we should always follow them.

It was not until the company really started to take off, from 15 people we went to more than a 100 in a period of months.

One of his manifestos was that everyone's salary should be visible for all employees. When we were a 15 people group this worked and never caused an issue. But with the coming of the new batch, after they discovered that they could see everyone's salary, the workplace was turned into a war zone. People were unhappy and it showed. It did not take long for the manifesto to crumble and after that many followed.

My point is, things change. The needs may have been different in the past and the manifesto may have worked but at some point it was a hurdle than needed to go in order to move forward.

I strongly believe manifestos are unethical, dishonest and have no place in a workplace. All they do is cause friction and stagnation.

That is all. Hopefully someone from GGG reads this.
