Chaos Innoculation feels bugged

So I love PoE2, playing a stormweaver sorc with reasonable success. Chaos damage has always been dangerous for ES based builds and when I got one shot by that "extra chaos dmg" mob I respecced into Chaos Innoculation and changed my gear with a focus on ES instead of life. The stun threshold problem can be solved by "Asceticism" (stun threshold based on 30% ES instead of life). Works well for me even with crap gear. I expected to be squishier overall (no life), but immun to chaos damage, which was the most dangerous type of damage to me.

Yes, I never get damage over time, my blue "CI Health Orb" turns purple, but its not ticking down. However, spitting snakes and poisonous insects are still the most dangerous mobs for me by far(!), it feels like they are hitting even harder as before. As soon as I see green projectiles flying towards me, I'm always fleeing in panic because the damage is crazy.

On the contrary, physical damage is significant for my ES orb (I have almost zero armour), but not dangerous. Even more confusing: with only 44% lightning res I expected to die frequently to lightning mobs, but I can take several lightning hits... about 3-5 greenish poisonous projectile hits kill me.

Question: Is Chaos Innoculation bugged with regard to chaos hit damage? Or are the poisonous mobs (snakes, insects) just hitting very hard with physical damage to inflict mild poison dots?

How does Chaos Innoculation feel for you guys?

PS: No, I'm not running MoM, EB, or Archmage.

Poison damage is nuts right now, it is overtuned and annoying. Every mob that spews poison has a unlimited gattling gun.

They need to address it, tone down poison build up or implement a cooldown to successive hits or lower the hits poison mobs can dish or make charms work properly.
Chaos damage on the tree doesn't affect poison damage.
So every 'chaos' monster with projectile(melee also) is actually doing physical damage, which then inflicts 20% of physical damage as poison.
This is also why chaos resistance does almost nothing, since there are not that many sources of actual chaos damage.

CI works perfectly fine. It's just like you said, some monster's projectiles have a physical portion that can hurt if you focus exclusively on ES. Map modifiers like "extra dmg as" are very dangerous with these enemies.

I solved that issue by adding a layer on top and getting some evasion (~4k) as well as freezing/shattering enemies.

Right now, just stacking a single defense is not enough at the highest tier. You have to add different layers or you'll likely die repeatedly.
Afaik the cobras do physical damage with poison attached to it.

From my personal experience, I don't think chaos damage or poison bypasses your Energy Shield in POE2.

Not with Chaos Inoculation it doesn't..
Poison does bypass ES, but since they are immune to Chaos Damage, it's harmless.
Well it still feels like it's broken. I hope GGG looks into it.
I thought poison and chaos damage didn't bypass ES in 2, they just deal double damage to ES. According to the in game tooltip.
