Skills with culling strike.

Greetings!

One of my main problems, that I ran into with the skills that use culling strike (especially with the mage skill Lightning Warp, but it can also be said for the monks Killing Palm too) is, that when I use the skill on a primed monster, if the monsters are too close to each other, my character can get stuck using the otherwise absolutely usless skill on healthy aka not "culling primed" monsters.
This can lead to me getting stuck in the middle of a monster ball and melting instantly. I try to make a sort of flicker strike mage where I damage monsters to a point of near death, than use Ball Ligthning to jump in the middle of the monsters, and as a safety net, then go through them using Lightning Warp. This can have wonderful area clear effects further damagin other monsters, that can be culled further, so on and so forth.
Unless... I get stuck casting Lightning Warp (a million cast per second, since I went for a lot of cast speed, and looking like an idiot and melting insantly)on a monster that isn't primed, since once I target a mob the character doesn't like to target the "escape Ball Lightnin" even if I hover the mouse over the spell.

So my question is can these skills be made in a way to only target actually cullable targets, or other spells? In this case after killing mobs I use my Ball Lightning as an escape spell so I can Warp myself out of the mob ball.

I would appreciate some thoughts on this.

It does only target cullable enemies or ball lightning, and won't target a monster that can't be culled from what I remember but I may have to test it again. If you just don't use ball lightning you can spam lightning warp and it won't go anywhere until something is cullable (though I think it wastes mana).

For something fun I recommend making ball lightning your main spell with increased shock chance, then using cast on shock lightning warp. Stacking meta skills gain energy from jewels and the wheel in the top right of the tree helps keep the engine going. It's super fun. Anointing your amulet with the notable south on the tree that causes shock to spread, and using the support that spreads socks, both really help it trigger more often.

I haven't been able to make it anywhere near as strong as archmage spark sadly though. I've tried triple cast on Shock with one lightning orb and two lightning warp. I tried a version using spark as my main skill. I even tried a non flicker build that just cast 3 ball lightning when my main ball lightning shocked and had the jewel for +3 levels to ball lightning. I've also tried using ball lightning as my main skill with Archmage and a single cast on Shock lightning warp; this one probably felt the best just because archmage is so strong (and I'm already geared as a mana stacker).
