Blood Mage need a change ASAP
The whole gimmick with Blood Mage is that more life = more dmg but here's the thing: aside from the life cost, which I think is not the issue... The thing is there's no reliable way for a blood mage to stack life at all... a huge int requirement on spell gems means we can't take str attribute to increase our life. Life from life remnant doesn't really provide a huge life increase at all... Please at least give blood mage a node that allows us to satisfy other attribute requirements with our highest attribute. That would solve the issue, as we can finally stack str for a higher maximum life so we can finally use the full benefit of more life = more dmg gimmick.

Life cost is not issue if you take the life leech node/have low cost spell like detonate dead , you have -4 ascendancy points then forced on two decisions , bad class design if you ask me, life remant gives decent hp its oke no issue tbh
You can stack str + int or a bit of all atributes ( rings + amulet or other gear stuff) tho you need very good gear on top of crit gear makes this very specific and less build options ... that is the main issue even if you play huge hp , low crit with big crit damage its bad |

" Having to stack both str and int is not efficient at all... since at max gem lvl, you need 200+ int to be able to use it... And at that point, how much str can you even get? without sacrificing your points... if you want a huge life pool, you will need a decent amount of str, and having to stack both int and str that high? You will be point-starved, tbh... It's just bad. Which is why you see people having more success going melee blood mage or bow blood mage because it's more efficient that way... You won't be point starved; you also will have a high HP pool due to STR stacking. And that will allow you to actually use Gore Spike. |

![]() For you example my own account which does not mind 200+ int spells or can get more str if needed both ways room for what you want Guess what you have hp too and just one swap for armor then we get more hp + res + there is node es from armor=life if you wanna go ham 1k es armor easy... TLDR: You can stack str int life you just need to plan it. Last edited by HoNuM#0650 on Jan 4, 2025, 1:27:07 AM

Yeah Blood mage is a mess.
1. The biggest problem is that the ascendancy is almost unplayable until you have all 8 ascendancy points. It is litterally in most cases better to not spend your ascendancy points until you have all 8. I know there is an exception with the DD build but thats basicly limited to 1 build and its also only because you can basicly abuse using a low level gem. Which is probably something that will get fixed. 2. Most of the ascendancy nodes are pretty weak. On the surface it doesnt look that bad but the issue is that most of the nodes have very low synergy with the game and other nodes on the skill tree. Sanguimancy - Because of the high mana cost of skills this node is in a best case scenario a neutral impact. If your clearing a map with high density then the globes give you about the same health back as your spells cost. And in any scenario where you cant pickup the globes its just a nightmare and a massive downside. And we still have to deal with the mana cost of spells just like everyone else. Overall it just creates such a huge demand for getting life, regen, mana and mana regen. So theres no room to get anything else. Open Sores - Terrible node, you would never spend an ascendancy node just to have infinite curse duration Vitality Siphon - This is actually one of the few nodes that are good. And also basicly mandatory for the ascendancy Blood Barbs - Cool concept that couldve been a very good node. The problem here is that there is no bleed support on the witch side of the tree. And even if you path all the way to the other side of the tree or get it from gems then all other form of bleed proc is bleed on hit, while this is bleed on crit which makes part of the node be wasted since you will still have to get hit capped. Gore Spike - Cool concept but it turns out to be pretty weak for two reasons. The main reason is that stacking life in this game is almost non existant. You get no life from the tree, there are few options on items and the only other way to get life is the Crimson power node. The second reason is that if your gonna stack life then you will have to take Crimson Power, and since sanguimancy and vitality siphon is non optional you actually cant get Gore spike to combo with it. Even if you magicly managed to get both Gore spike and crimson power, then realisticly you cant get more then like max 4k hp. Which would be 100% crit damage. And thats with max life on every item, %life on neck, etc. Sunder the Flesh - Decent node for crit builds but your giving up 700-1000hp to get it. Grasping Wounds - Very average node, another node that looks better then it actually works. Since regen is so limited what often happends is that you survive a big hit but then get murdered by the damage over time. Crimson Power - Very good node. The only problem with it is that you need to take Grasping wounds to get it. Which means with Sanguimancy and vitality siphon being non optional you have no options. 3. Sanguimancy being non optional and giving such a massive downside leaving Vitality siphon also non optional for most builds means that half your ascendancy points are non optional which leaves almost no build variety. Overall there is just very low variety, incredibly high requirements for life, regen and mana and very mediocre nodes that have no synergy with other nodes on the skill tree. Yep very forced and limited agree on you need all 8 points or just unplayable , I think most of the nodes are weak too because of the option being like walls rather than new stuff to unlock you cannot spec both ways on more life or more crit at the same time you have to decide or mix both with low impact unless one build out of 100 .... does not make any sense .
I don't know if this was their idea but makes all the builds limited less room as you know and decide A B or both mixed , made DD the most viable for that specific reason ( removed a lot of the health cost no need for life leech node you can go mixed full crit or gore + more hp ) |

" Come on, bro... we know that 2.1k hp is not a lot. Combine that with life remnant, and you will get like, what? 2.8? close to 3k? or even 3k if you got lucky... I've seen a titan walk around with 6k HP... and Blood Mage ascendency is revolved around "Life," yet we don't even have the highest life pool out there... Yes, you can cut your 200 int in half and dump that into str because we can't use high-level gems anyway... but here's the thing: we basically got gimped by our own gimmick... we can't use high-level gems because we don't have enough life to sustain it... we can't sustain life because we dont have a way to stack life efficiently to begin with... And the dev boasts that during their interview, Blood Mage is a class that can deal ridiculously high amounts of dmg," with the whole idea of the class being that more life = more dmg. Yet because of how gimped we are, we can't even hold a candle to infernalists, who can pretty much get up to 1200% and more spell damage with uncapped demon form with some snapshot. With a downside that can easily be fixed without gimping the player. It's either GGG makes life remnant perm during the run or they give us a way to scale life more easily. Anyway, Blood Mage need to be changed. |

I agree with you that blood mage needs to be changed but overflow is 4k easy at my hp in my experience I stay on tier 15 maps while playing detonate dead without any issue , yes I could spec out of the base crit 15% and go for the energy from armor= hp(5k + hp option with the overflow) not far off from the titan you speak about there is option for that its not impossible to reach , the inferalist sacrifce 2 weap slots/1 big weap slot for that form(a lot of stats ) then unless you have godly regen+ res gear you ain't going for that one long time clearing maps chief , infernalist has more option and more stuff because they are not limited like us to -2 points and get much better from that simple fact that we are playing with not the same points on the table

" i would like to say i am loving endgame on bloodmage but early through midgame felt like total trash for main reasons stated. i'm playing a phys spell build (bonestorm, bonecage, bone blast, and dd depending on situation not using the brute sacrifice cheese on dd tho) and ofc have split tree, i have the insta leech gloves so honestly grasping wounds feels very powerful since it just makes the node effectively be 25% damage reduction. i agree gorespike could use some changes or they need to add better ways to stack life on our class though i'm sitting at barely 3k w/o overflow which is nothing if you compare to es stackers or MoM builds or the crazy defenses you get from a ci+high es+MoM build (which we literally can't do 'cus sanguinmancy is forced and you can't cast a spell if you take ci). main changes i want are more ways to stack life, slight better scaling on gore spike, and sanguinmancy to be a 50/50 split instead of just adding 100% extra cost as hp. with these i'd be pretty happy even during early game with the class. |

I leveled BM to lvl 93 yesterday, done A LOT of T15 maps and most bosses in game (except couple hardest ones). So I think I have some picture now.
Asc is definitely VERY underpowered, no matter how you approach it, especially in comparison with meta stuff some other classes can to work with. I run hex blast/essence drain, armor and shield (so health as only pool), around 3500 hp. Its workable (with at least 1 div gear in every slot -- much less before that, because its hard to balance life/mana costs and still have minimal dps to clear content). Mapping is borderline ok (not fast obviously) because Im rather tanky vs usual crowds even on highly modded maps. Most bosses safe kill, YET torment-level boring and slow, because lack of serious dps -- its more attiration thing to slowly chip them off, rolling around. They cant kill me, but i cant kill them fast at all (especially around map level 82+). Conclusion: big buff needed, exact form of it idk, but its needed. |
