Breachstone no enemies spawn

Used a breach stone to try the T4 boss but for the 2nd time no mobs spawn after I walk over the breach, 45 second timer starts, I walk to the end of the path, timer ends and event ends and I lose my breachstone without even getting to attempt the event.
