please unlock skills attached to specific Weapons and add shield gem skill branch
First off i’ll start with the shield gemcutting menu. GGG please expand the shield skills into its own branch like mace, quaterstafff, etc. i suspect that there will be a few one-handed weapons coming out soon and it will simplier to find shield based skills under its own branch. Also It seems silly to take away a couple of slots for a shield specific skill or repeat a skilsl thats already under a diferent branch. Just a thought.
Secondly and perhaps the biggest part of this post, let us discuss skills that can only be utilized while wielding certain wands, specters and staves. I suspect the design choice here was to force players to gear a certain way and upgrade that specific weapon, if so, i will counter and say this is simply teaching me NOT to care about those skills so i can have a more enjoyable leveling experience. Luckily these skills costing zero mana are a nice offset however I am still limited by not being able to upgrade the skill nor help improve my build as I'm stuck with this particular weapon especially if I cannot roll decent stats on a similar item. thus far, i have encountered at least 16 skills locked behind weapons (listed them below): 5 Wands Attuned Wand - Mana Drain Siphoning wand - power siphon Bone Wand - bone blast Withered wand - chaos bolt Volatile Wand - Volatile Dead 5 Staves Ashen staff - firebolt Pyrophyte staff - living bomb Gelid Staff - Freezing Shards Chiming Staff - Sigil of Power Voltaic staff - lightning bolt 4 Sceptres (shrine scepter has 3 skills options) Shrine Sceptre - Purity of Ice, fire or lightning Rattling Sceptre - skeletal warrior minion* Omen Sceptre - malice Stoic sceptre - discipline *I would like to mention here that the rattling sceptre is the only weapon that has an ability that is also selectable in the regular gem cutting menu - “skeletal warrior minion skill”. Now these skills are probably junk. Which is why they are probably only available via equipped weapons, but i think they have potential, i just can't tell because i cannot level them out myself and swapping out a weapon can drastically change out a build. So what's my issue here, simply i wish these skills were available outside of their respective weapons as it adds to more build diversity because something i noticed as i played through the campaign as a sorceress, a blood mage and a infernalist was they all played very similarly in the early game and i think it was because of a lack of early skill options…not just my playstyle. Seriously I don't see why we cannot have these skills exist as both a fixed weapon skill and a skill gem similar to skeletal warrior minion.
