Not freeing Leitis, still progressing

I'm not sure if this is intentional, but you don't have to free Leitis? After killing the executioner, I didn't free her and went to town, but stayed too long and my instance reset. The waypoint for the Manor became available, even though she hadn't been freed, and can continue with the game.

As you don't get the quest, "The Mad Wolf of Ogham" until after you free her and talk to her in Clearfell, it seems she's somewhat vital to rescue?
