If Your Playing 1080p, Switch to 1440p or Above
|
Hot topic, but after testing the game myself in both 1080p and 1440p on a fairly decent rig (4070, i7 and 32gb ram)
I have found the game runs best at 1440p. I have been playing POE avidly since launch and have been a 1080p gamer for the past 5+ years. I had ZERO ISSUES with FPS, completed story, got into doing maps, breaches, and other events. What I found was that after tier 14 maps, the game starts to chug with the amount of mobs spawning, and all thats going on on the screen, especially with certain events like breaches or rituals at 1080p. when starting an event my frames would drop heavily and constantly bounce around. And no, its not my internet, I have stable 20ms most of the time. It was really starting to affect my gameplay, as the second I would start a Breach or even use my Electric skills in a heavily crowded area, my game would stutter and freeze for a second when the action commences, and in extremely high level areas, that instant can be the difference between getting one shot or dodge rolling out of harm. On top of that, I would watch streamers or other people play and their game would not be affected like mine in heavily crowded areas, them being on 1440p. So I spent some time researching, and aside from the usual people complaining about FPS while playing on a potatoe, I came across a post where a person was claiming that running games like POE in 1080p actually does more harm then good, especially when you have a decent graphics card and CPU. Because running games in 1080p doesnt put enough load on your GPU, it ends up putting more stress on your CPU. With POE being a CPU bound game, this can create a performance issue. I looked into it a bit more and I seen quite a few similar posts of people stating better performance on 1440p in a range of games, not just ARPGs or POE specifically. So I figured I would grab a 1440p monitor since they are on crazy sale and test it for myself, and just return it if its not that noticeable or even worth it from 1080p. Upon running a tier 15 map with Breach and Delirium, my PC managed to hold a stable 120+ fps with ZERO stutters even during the most intense action, game looks waaaaaaaaaay better and on the graphs in game I get a fraction of the spikes I did before. Keep in mind im on a 27', if your on a 24' and go from 1080p to 1440p you probably wont notice a difference in picture or quality. but the performance will probably be better. Im not claiming this to be fact, but it worked for me, and as an avid gamer, wanting to switch to 1440p anyways, it just makes sense especially with my GPU. The game looks honestly a thousand times better and I didnt sacrifice any performance. Just a plus I would definitely recommend 1440p if your GPU can handle it.
