I HATE SOCCER

Yeah you'd think men would be more interested watching women's tennis or swimming competition, I don't know? Somethings don't always make sense. ^_^
You live in Italy and you call it Soccer?
Bloody PES fanboy :P Just kidding!

It was a nickname the Brits came up with for football (then called association football), then ironically began making fun of Americans for calling it that.

Personally I think they are still bitter that we won't given them their land back and this is one of their ways of expressing it. :P

Actually it's because you have taken our beloved RUGBY bastardised it, dress your players in so much padding they look like contestants from 'it's a knockout' and then have the temerity to call it football :P

--EDIT1: i make a lot of typos--
--EDIT2: english is not my native language--
Its called football, we europeans invented it first.
American football is just a rugby derivative.
Soccer is a non-existing term.

No, it was invented by the English. If you're Italian, German, Spanish, etc then you have about as much right to claim that you invented it as we Americans do. Granted if you're from those 3 european countries you can claim that you're better at it then both the English and Americans and it would be hard to argue based on historical facts.

And once again, Soccer is an existing term and it did not originate in America. If you want to blame someone for the word "Soccer" existing, blame the English.
I am shocked as to how underplayed soccer is in Australia. We can't even watch a few of the lesser soccer games at all. Even on pay tv. The only way we could watch Socceroo's vs... forgotten, but we had to watch it in Vietnamese.
