Can someone tell me if it's supposed to be before or after Jamanra the abomination? idk why it never showed in my game, I'm level 30 and never got any quest objective or items for ascendancy.
First ascendancy is before the end of act 2 yeah, the zone you need to go to is Traitor's Passage I think and kill Balbala there, that boss drops a coin quest item that is used for your first trial and its infinitely retryable. Hope this helps.

I've cleared this area twice now, I'm not sure if the other night I beat the boss and died before picking up coin. For some strange reason my only quest is to kill Jamanra. Whenever I attempt to find Balbala in traitor's passage she isn't here. So I'm not sure what happened but after checking my quest log all quest are compeleted except kill Jamanra.
Anyway I will come clear on a second character and find out if this was a glitch of the coin being destroyed before I could pick it up! Thanks.
Yeeah the coin might have been deleted if you died after the boss died, wouldn't be surprised if your current character is just bugged. Good luck.

It gives you a quest item, a quest notification and a quest marker on your map... how much more hand holding can they do?
They have to find Balbala to begin with to get the item. Sure they can recieve the quest to break her out but nothing to indicate this is linked to acension.
Do you know is Balbala respawns?? I've cleared the area twice now, and my quest log is all completed except for kill Jamanra. I think my game might have bugged and I missed the coin the first time, because coming back there is no Balbala, I have no coin in stash or inventory and no quest for ascendancy.
I was blasting late a night 3am, so maybe I died after killing Balbala or something happened. Sucks I didn't have a video to check, thanks anyway!
I will progress a second character and see if the same thing occurs.

(when you die, all items in instance are destroyed)
but I can assure you I cleared that area, never got item or quest, I'm much farther. Please keep in mind this is early access bugs happen.
Quest items don't get deleted by a death. I died right with Lachlaan and watched as the loot dropped, respawn and just the quest item is there. If it got deleted that's a bug. Maybe you didn't do respawn at checkpoint and instead went to town?
If you've killed Balbala you should get the token, if you don't have it then try and remember as much about what happened and write a bug report.
You don't need the quest token though, you can do it with any Djinn Barya.

Actually they can.
It happened to me with the final boss in the Lost city.
I had to completely reset the zone and do the boss fight over to get the quest item to drop again.
