Bug or Intended? Innsmouth Shabby Hood Reduces Mana Regeneration
Hello Exiles,
I recently tried out the Innsmouth Shabby Hood and noticed that its behavior regarding mana regeneration might not be working as expected. I'd like to describe the issue here and ask whether this is a bug or if it’s working as intended. Helmet Properties: The Innsmouth Shabby Hood has the following stats: 25% reduced maximum Mana 100% increased Mana regeneration rate +19% to Cold Resistance +17% to Resistance Penetration At first glance, the helmet appears to be well-suited for builds that rely on increased mana regeneration, especially for casters with high mana usage. The Problem: When equipping this helmet, I expected to see an increase in mana regeneration due to the "100% increased Mana regeneration rate" modifier. However, the opposite occurs: my mana regeneration is actually worse with the helmet equipped. Here are the numbers: Without the Helmet: Maximum Mana: 625 Mana Regeneration: 75 per second With the Helmet: Maximum Mana: 451 (due to the 25% reduction from the helmet) Mana Regeneration: 72.2 per second Outcome: Instead of improving, my mana regeneration drops by approximately 3.7%, going from 75 per second to 72.2 per second, despite the 100% increase in regeneration rate. Expectation: The "100% increased Mana regeneration rate" modifier suggests that my regeneration should noticeably improve. However, the reduction in maximum mana decreases the base value for the regeneration calculation, effectively negating the benefit of the increased regeneration rate. Analysis: From my understanding, the increased mana regeneration rate should offer a significant advantage, even if the maximum mana is reduced. However, the current interaction between these two modifiers renders the helmet ineffective, as the reduced maximum mana outweighs the doubled regeneration rate. If this is not a bug, it would be helpful to clarify the mechanics behind mana regeneration or adjust the helmet’s stats to better align with player expectations. Currently, the helmet has very little utility for mana-intensive builds like casters. Suggestions for Improvement: Adjust the Mechanics: Instead of reducing maximum mana, the helmet could provide a higher increase to mana regeneration (e.g., 150–200%) or introduce a unique mechanic that rewards mana-intensive builds. Clarify the Description: If this interaction is intended, the item description could be updated to explicitly state the interaction, such as: “Reduces maximum mana and increases regeneration based on the reduced mana pool.” Question to the Community: Is the behavior of the Innsmouth Shabby Hood working as intended, or is this possibly a bug? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and I hope GGG can provide clarification or consider reworking this unique. Thank you for reading and for your feedback! Last bumped on Dec 24, 2024, 3:35:32 PM

If it increases or decreases your mana regeneration should depend on how much increased modifiers of those stats you already have.
If you have no modifiers to those stats at all the calculation should be as follows. You lose 25% of your base mana regen and then double it and end up at 1.5 times the regen. 0.75 * 2 = 1.5 The reason why your regen goes down should be that you already have some significant investment into increased mana regen. So its hard to say if its working like intended without seeing your gear and tree. On your suggestions. No i i don't think the description needs clarification. Thats how the PoE mechanics work and learning about the games mechanics is part of the experience. Peoples hands don't need to be completely held. Also the game basically has this kind of ingame wiki now where you can hover over keywords to get them explained. I think thats very good and enough. If the tool tip for mana regen doesn't include that the regen is based on your max mana they should include that though. |
