Why is Chalupa Monk so poorly designed? Suggestions on how to improve.
Tried to make Chayula work, but the mana leech recovering energy shield sounded great on paper but absolute garbage in practice. Chaos damage is… underwhelming. Darkness removing spirit so I lose all the heralds and frenzy charge generation? No thanks.
All in all it’s just shit through and through and I’m going back to my Invoker. |

I wonder if Chayula might work a little better once other weapon types come out... Quarterstaff skills mostly convert a lot of your physical damage to elemental, but that's presumably not going to be the case for sword or dagger etc.
It'll still probably need help even there but at least it should function properly. |

" There's really no reason to lock every skill to one specific weapon type in the first place though. Why can't I use Boneshatter with a quarterstaff if I want to? |

No experience with Chayula monk but 100% agree on the spirit penalty being too harsh for the darkness gains. Unless a unqiue comes in that removes all spirit in exchange for big gains could be synergistic. Also flames spawn change sounds really good and well thought out.
One cannot help but wonder how such a lust for loot can affect a persons mind. Although these exiles appear to be our salvation, it would not take much for them to turn on us as easily as they fight gods and demons.

" It was inspired by Marvel Heroes, which was actually my first Diablo-like. Enemies in that game dropped orbs on death which grant health, mana, and XP when picked up. They also had a small attraction radius so they'd get pulled towards you. It was always super fun to run around grabbing them after clearing a pack of mobs. |

Some notes:
As this subclass of monk, your "chosen element" is physical and chaos. You should not be speccing into lightning or frost. You want chaos nodes, physical nodes, a weapon that doesn't deal any element damage in the first place, and you wont keep using Tempest Flurry or Ice Strike as your main damage. I brought myself through to cruel difficulty using Nazir's Judgement, a physical only unique quarterstaff. I'm still using it but might replace it with a physical only rare soon. Chayula's Gift, if anything and at all worth taking, is there to counteract Spaghettification. I'm not currently using it, but that's what it would be for, aside from just not needing to build as much resist as other builds. So far I am definitely finding the bonus damage from Embrace the Darkness worth not using the Spirit skills. If you choose to take Embrace the Darkness, you build for using Darkness. You go more into chaos damage, throw in some poison since chaos damage helps it, and you protect your Darkness bar. I'm going to take Mind of Matter and Eldritch Battery to let mana be my health while my Darkness stays full. Last edited by The_Song#4903 on Dec 24, 2024, 4:40:15 PM

" What skills are you using that don't convert most of your damage to elemental? |

" One could choose to use maces, and I imagine once released dagger and sword will be better than maces for monk. In the meantime I've been using the wind and chaos quarterstaff skills. If something is to be called my main damage so far, it would either be the bell buffed by Mantra of Destruction, or the projectiles from Staggering Palm. At some point I'll see if I can't beat them out with Flicker or Whirling |

" But... What are you using for DPS filler/combo builder? Mace skills require investment in strength and you're already doing int/dex... Are you seriously using Wind Blast as your main DPS ability? Last edited by Xenus_Paradox#7530 on Dec 24, 2024, 5:34:49 PM
