The new SSF - viable until the end
SSF is for many players a really important mechanic. In PoE1, doing SSF was no problem, because you got enough rares, so that at some point something useful dropped for you.Since loot is quite scarce in PoE2, SSF is really tough. THough I'm not sure if "tough" is the right word, because for me "tough" means with enough skill/time, you will get through. But since drops and vendor offers are fully RNG based, it's quite possible you will be stuck at a certain point in the game, because stats matter, especially in mid/endgame.
So how to fix this? I think it would be good, if SSF characters can't drop out of the SSF-mode. That means, once you're SSF, you will stay SSF with this character. Similiar to hardcore league, it's a permanent decission you make. BUT that should be rewarded with better drops. Currency and rares should be more frequent, so that gear progression feels fitting. Since the SSF player will never be able to trade with someone else, the higher drop rates won't matter at all. I think this would increase the enjoyment of being SSF. Last epoch absolutely knock it out of the park with this one. Allowing target farming and a bit better loot. Give us the same concept and I'd be ecstatic. I can't play trade league, it feels lame to me. I want to find my own stuff and strategize my grinding by target farming. I want to be able to craft my gear. Currently, ssf in poe2 is out of whack. The pacing and reliance on pure luck is somewhat frustrating. You can get stuck many times, which is not the issue in itself, but the fact that I can't do anything meaningful about it is annoying.

" For a true SSF enjoyer it wouldn't be a problem, because we would never drop out of SSF. Going to trade because a mirror dropped or something is for weak-minded people. |

" Yes, that's why I think SSF shouldn't be optional. If you choose SSF, you stay SSF. And I think that's closer to the ARPG experience GGG envisions then what SSF currently is. Like "Oh, now it gets a little bit hard. Lets drop out of SSF". Make SSF true SSF and give SSF players the tools (better drop rates) to reliably get through the game. Gear progression is important in ARPG and even non-SSF players struggle to get through the game, if they don't use the trade feature, which is kinda sad. |

SSF has been very fun and im glad i did it but now im at t15 and want to 'finish' my character and do the endgame bosses the patchwork gear will really not work anymore.
I need to finish resistances with good gear, I need to target things for my build that all the currency i throw at it is just such slim chances of an upgrade its painful. I dont think drops are the issue, i dont expect any drops will be an upgrade at this point but the likelihood i can make a drop into something worthwhile with currency is such wild RNG and so costly i cant see myself grinding that hard ever. Its possible to grind enough currency to make the gear you need but yea... Targeting would really help a ton in crafting and in drops, i looked at trade website and i could cry at the stuff on offer for so cheap, how the fuck are people stuck playing softcore lmao. Im sure this is all coming anyway but right now oof, im kinda at a wall of do i grind for a chance to roll the dice or just go on a softcore character until we get more systems. |

" Yeah, but that's a different problem: We don't have a reliable crafting system right now. It's completely RNG. That could be fixed with a suggestion I made some days ago: " Orb of Permanence would allow you to protect certain modifiers from being influenced by other orbs (like chaos) and therefore lets you forge your dream equipment, with enough orbs and patience. :) |
