Templar - How to make a viable build

cant reiterate what a terrible build this is. Level 52 and merc is impossible. You're basically single targeting everything... Rabbit = no cred henceforth.

I'm glad you're continuing to suck with a proven build. Carry on brave soldier. Whatever you do, don't start using support gems, you're already level 52, might as well grind to 100 without using them.

Dear Rabbit,

Hopefully this thread will help the community in creating solid templar builds.

Otherwise, I may be a bit too narrow-minded but I still believe a templar archer to be blasphemous (although it seems to be working).

Anyhow here is my intended built when we have a skill reset (soon?): agility templar for cut-throat

One handed mace (glacial hammer) + shield (still undecided between pure str or str/int shield)

Why the above built?

Cut-throat = must hit accurately, hit fast and a built not too reliant on specific rare equipment... because you WILL lose them).

Inner force = I intend to use eva, ES, mana regen auras.

melee = must move fast (shield charge), good defence (this built should have decent armor, eva, ES, block, life).

supporting skills = enduring cry, molten shell for defence, basic minions for decoys, cold aura and ele weakness for more dps

FUTURE enhancement to this built: Crystal skin? Totem master? Hybrid shield ES nodes? Armor master? Golem blood?

Any comments or tips on my built for PvP?

To get the discussion back on track here...

I'm trying to decide whether I should 1h and focus on shield abilities (easily reached from Templar) or go for a 2h with armor/energy shield.

What are the pros and cons of choosing shield vs armor vs energy shield?

I've been trying to play my templar as a kind of melee elementalist, but I'm taking a ton of damage (esp. from gravel spitters) and this is making me rethink my initial plans for a 1h like this:

IMHO there are quite some problems here: yes your block chance will be nice, BUT whenever a monster hits you you have neither good armor, nor much life...

I would suggest you get at least more life , some armor nodes wouldn't hurt either.

Also you stats could need a little boost as well, they basically restrict you to use only hibrid equipment (since you won't have enough strenght for ppure str equipment and the same for intelligence). Also more str = more life and more damage; more int = more energy shield and more mana.

Another problem - since you said you want meele is that you won't hit much: your dexterity is low and no additional accuracy nodes, you would be very dependent on +accuracy nodes (though if you would want to use many spells that wouldn't be a problem)

My 2 cents.
Proud 5th duelist in the Jul 1 2012 Ladder Race and in the Nov 3 2012 Solo Turbo Race :D
And even prouder 4th Templar in the Nov 10 Four-hour Party Hardcore Race :P

I abandoned that build quite a while ago and actually adopted several of the things you suggested. Glad to see I wasn't too far off in how I went about fixing things.

I think I prefer my stave-based templar the most, so I've abandoned the 1h elementalist attempt entirely for the moment. I'd probably re-roll a new character rather than go back to it at this stage. :D
Hi, wouldn't this be easier to play as a Marauder? It's a generic solo build with a 2H weapon (probably mace) but Resolute Technique is really far down the line.
Thanks!

So im a new player and wanted to go over the class. I bought the $10 beta last night. This game seems slower pace than wow and D3 which is great, but right now I just want to learn the class better. I was planning on going 2h templar but I seen that I can duel wield, he can be a casters and tank. So Mapping out the tree is going to that a lot of trial and error on my part. Has the OP done some theory crafting/ made a spreadsheet? Has anyone? I would like to see a more in debt look a the perks of rolling different specs? Also I have not seen if you can respec your tree if you mess up, is that option available in the game yet? Right now I'm at work and we can only use IE, so I can't link a talent tree or look at ones posted.
Hi!

Im quite new to this game but could OP or someone else let me know if it is possible to make a viable buffer/support from templar?

If so any tips / tricks I should keep in mind while trying to do it?

Thanks in advance!
I've been looking at the skill tree in this game and think it's outright awesome - Such an awesome web.
Now I haven't yet played the game but I've been looking into the Templar tree quite a bit - and after reading the whole 71 skill point cap thing, I've been toying with a build.

Anyways I'll ask your opinions...
From what I've seen reading the skills - Maces seem to have a stun lock? (Correct me if I'm wrong) :3
How would a Crit based Mace & Shield Templar fair?

Has via skill :
- High Crit chance %
- High Crit dmg modifier
- High Strength
- Hard & Fast hits with mace
- High Block & Armor modifier
- High Life% & All Res Modifiers

I'm not sure how this game plays out & how the skills/itemization works out but it seems to me this kind of play would be well rounded for most ARPGs - His high life/block/armor to soak damage and a constant stun lock/critical for damage output.

Opinions?
