I'm on HOWA, melting things with 20+ runs of relics backing me
3rd floor boss still 1 shots with 70% HR / 2000+ Honor remaining
Or maybe it's the vases you get stuck on that bolt shots don't clear
Or maybe it's a proximity bubble dude with a CROSS SCREEN FLAME SHOT
Or maybe it's 'minor' afflictions like no ES / Armour / EVA
Or maybe it's just not fucking fun.
Bootlickers.
3rd boss one shots .... LOL??? wow thats a build problem if I have ever seen it

Its not easy when you don't have any relics equiped or random shitty ones, its not easy when you have no defenses on your gear and have no honor because of that. Its not easy when you don't want to read afflictions, use the merchant, plan your route.
This is introduced to you in Act 2. For someone who's never played PoE 1 before and has no idea what Sanctum is or how it works how tf are they supposed to have any idea wtf is happening here?
Also, first character, second act, barely any gear or resources...this is a terrible trial to ascend and begin the process of building your character.
Specifically, because you DON'T play Sanctum or the trial AT ALL like you typically play your character! This isn't a trial of how well I play my <insert class here> it's a test of how well I know how to cheese/manipulate the Sanctum mechanics and honor which is not relevant for most players for the majority of the rest of the game.
It's frustrating and it's a terrible introduction for a new player. It's also just so disjointed from the game-play leading up to it. I don't want to have to wait for the next trial because it might be easier. I want to ascend in act 2 and get some more power for my character and feel like I'm making progress. As OP clearly stated, this isn't fun as the ascendancy mechanic.
I understand there are sanctum enjoyers out there who love this and more power to you! It's a great late game content island to farm.
I vehemently feel that this mechanic doesn't belong as a gate keeping challenge this early in the game.

The fundamental problem is that you lose honor when the shield is hit. I would be okay when we'd lose honor when we actually lost some life but the classes I play fundamentally rely on ES by design, with fast recharge and charge start time.
To take that away forces me to play completely different in a single activity than in the rest of the game. Which also would be kinda okay if it weren't so darn long with one-shots everywhere around the corner. Yes I stacked honor res, went into 2nd floor with 4.5k honor, died on the 5 floor from snakes, traps and screen filling firebreathing mobs.
I've given up on that bs and will do the remaining levels in the temple. There at least I can fight as I'm used to.

When Sanctum Mechanic came out in POE1 I tried it and walked away. Never liked it because its essentially a different system that turns an ARPG expereince into a 'rogue like', completely ignoring the fact that you built equipment and skill trees specifically to interact with the base game; where Hitpoints, mana shield, armor, evasion, etc matter.
It seems an odd choice to gate character build progress behind a system that uses a fundamentally different system from the one you're using it to progress. Why not have players complete a car race or an fps themed in POE2 Lore and world - well, obviously, thats not even POE. Make sense ?
I get that they were trying to update the ascension, so good on them for trying something fresh. Hopefully new creative options can come out of this.

Agreed.
Moving a new direction from lab made sense. Landing on Sanctum was nonsense
