River hag water orb feels out of place
As far as I know, it's the only mechanic in the game that can kill you without bringing you to 0 hit points. It feels really out of place in PoE2.
In my opinion, either add more things that can kill you the same way through your hp, so that it sets the expectation that this is just what the game is, or remove it from the game. Right now it's just... weird. Last bumped on Jan 11, 2025, 5:01:32 AM

It definitely needs some changes. I watched a clip a day or two ago of a Warrior using Leap Slam and at that moment an orb spawns. The orb catches him in the animation, slows him down, and kills him before he can dodge out.
I am okay with it killing me if I stay in it and okay with it slowing the player, but not both at the same time. If we must have both, I'd say the amount of time required for lingering to equal death needs to be at least 30-50% longer. Last edited by ReggShanks#0071 on Dec 18, 2024, 3:12:07 PM

This is fucking problematic. I have died to these things multiple times with full life and just assumed it was a bug because I had no fucking idea how I died.
Shit mechanic. |

Yeah it's really brutal right now. It could even be fair if you could defend yourself with a charm, like the one that stops you from being slowed. However, you first encounter them in A3 when you only have one charm slot, and you basically need an anti-poison charm to live in A3, so your defensive options are basically none.
I wouldn't even mind as much if it was paired with another monster that slowed you down for a deadly combo, but that it does both in one package, it's a lot. Kinda jealous of ranged characters. Last edited by Shortwings#1741 on Dec 18, 2024, 3:16:57 PM

+1 Yeah, I always instantly die to this with 10K ES, capped resistances, mind over matter with 1K mana, a shield with 40% block, and 3 charms to prevent bleed, poison, and freeze. I can tank boss hits but I die to this spell cast by random trash mobs.
I thought they wanted to remove one shot mechanics from this game. At least give us some ways to mitigate it. Last edited by LordFlash#4735 on Dec 28, 2024, 5:32:51 AM

Raise them as specters :)
You only need two of those to 1sec a uberboss. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drDs-Y5DNH8

Aside for the orb's ttk being incredibly short (pretty much shorter than what it would take any traversal skill with forced extra skill duration to complete), you also have them water hags spawn in pairs at times and spamming their balls and whirlpools.
Then again, unreasonably spammy monster skills are common place, if we look at, say, volatile flowers, or how a map boss can spam-cast 2 one-shot mechanics in quick succession, mechanics that sometimes have different requirements to avoid the one-shot. The hags are my most hated creature in the game so far, 2nd being the dreadnaught necromancers that can explode corpses from off-screen (which is complete shit, as any other off-screen attack mechanic) followed by any rare mob that can spam the volatile flowers (preferably paired with a time bubble or a chilled ground aura). A lot of mechanics need to be looked at and tweaked a bit... or a bit more. |

This attack is so bloody stupid. It takes seconds to kill you. Not damaging you, just oneshot you out of the map. And it can be obscured by your own things like Frost Wall and so on. It does get blocked by it, sometimes (because this game has a lot of spaghetti code), but nevertheless, you can literally get killed from something you can't even see. And you can't outheal it, you can't do anything. It just kills you outright. This enemy type and this attack is so stupid. The hags are way too tanky, and an attack like that should simply not exist. Make it deal damage and it'll be fine. Just killing you like that is so bloody idiotic.

I haven't died to one of these since acts, but I'll happily say that adding a PINNACLE BOSS mechanic from POE1 to random mobs in POE2 feels hilariously stupid.
Although like, an adorable little axolotl that fired a Shaper beam would be pretty amusing. :D |
