Trial of Sekhemas made me quit

I was loving this game until I hit this point. Was hyping it to all my friends, bought a $150 controller just to no life it on PS5, I really thought I found a game I'd sink hours and hours in for years to come. I've wanted a true successor to D2 for yeaaaars!

Then I decided to try getting my Ascendacy class at lvl 30 on Warrior and hit a wall like no other. 15+ attempts now and I only manage to get from room 3 to room 7. With boss fights that are difficult I see myself improving with each new attempt...with these trials it just feels like no matter the strategy I use im not ever even close.

I've looked at guides, watched videos on how to do it, and nothing helps. It's not just that it's insanely difficult though...it's not fun at all. Who wants to play "don't get hit" when for 30 lvls that's been the gameloop? I truly don't understand this design choice. Then when you fail having to start the entire thing over is just rage inducing.

I read that they were making changes to it this patch + buffing my warriors shield/mace, so I waited to speak about it until I tried it after the patch, but it made no difference. In fact, my worst runs were after the patch. It feels like it got worse. I lost half my honor in the first room.

The difficulty of the game is one thing I truly enjoy...so I'm truly not saying to make it easy for casuals...however I think considering alternative ways players can ascend might be worth looking into. Because I know for a fact I'm never completing this damn thing...which means I'm never ascending...which means I'll just stop playing because what's the point?

Thanks for the 80hrs I've spent so far, Definitely worth my $30 already. I just think maybe I was wrong and this games not for me after all.

I totally understand why you feel bad, but there are certainly options available to you to answer this problem.

My best recommendation for keeping your sanity while playing this game in general is; don't rush things. The game's not a race so just relax and play it.

If the ascension's a little too hard for you at the moment, move on from the trial and continue the campaign without ascending.

Alternatively, if you really really want to ascend to get it out of the way, ask the community for help! Players are actually such a powerful resource and in PoE1, we would help each other ascend ALL the time. PoE2 is no different!

You can purchase carries, or even get a nice person to help you out for free if you ask around.

If you like the gameplay overall and you have fun with it, don't let FOMO ruin the entire experience for you.

All the same, best of luck in your ventures!

This travesty wont last long, trust me.

You cannot just pick the worst two mechanics, make them mandatory for ascension and expect people to go with it.
The worst part o Both Trials is the RNG..Sure if there some insane rewards. But people are doign these for SKill points. There need's to be an endgame version seperate to ascension trials if people want to farm it.

The labrynth was so much better, Even uber Lab. I am 100% sure POE 2 Devs who made Trials are not the same people incharge of The labrynth.

Also Trials are not balanced for POE, They still use modifiers that are from POE 1. Not the same game! They need to be re designed for POE 2.

Ascension - especially the first one - is based on a highly divisive league mechanic from PoE1 - Sanctuary. The feedback on that league was very ... polarized. Ranged characters were fine with it, melee characters HATED it.

What you can do to get past is to add ranged options to your build. Adapt to the situation, that is. Molten Blast is ranged - awfully clunky - but it allows you to kill stuff from afar. Sunder - once acquired - also does a decent job of killing things before they hit you. Boneshatter ... is not a good idea for this.

Apart from that you can also have tons of luck with the rooms themselves and relics you find. You can easily get your Honour resistance up by a decent amount and you can increase your honour for the run significantly with the relics.

The end boss can be done normally - you just need to dodge properly. Oh - and movement speed. Very important stat. Allows you to bypass many monsters by just running and dodging their projectiles they fire after you.

It's harder than for ranged characters but if you experiment with Sunder and Molten Blast a bit easier. You will look forward to the next Ascension, thouth, which is based on yet another divisive League Mechanic - this time it'll be in your favour, though.:)
the patch didn't help. the honor system is still awful.

not sure how you managed to stay lvl 30 for 80 hours, but you can overlevel your char and crush the first two trials just by the insane amount of leveldifference.

that beeing said, they nerfed the trial "a little bit" this very night - even thou i share your opinion, these are not fun at all. i bought the third trial from some dude for 5 ex and afkd in the room in front of the boss
MINOR AFFLICITION

- You have No ES
- You have No Armour
- You have No Evasion

MAJOR BOON

- 30 honour restored each room

MINOR BOON

- 40% movement speed
- 50% increased damage
- monsters has 30% less life.

Yep totally balanced. I was having a blast until the 3rd floor boss, killing bosses in 5 seconds or less. Keeping my honour 90+% all the time. Then I got hit by "no evasion" and lost my entire defences (65% evasion and 60% phy reduction), then got "each hit remove 5% life and ES" the next room, and failed at 4th floor to some machinegun snails which one shotted me. When your RNG has a bigger impact than your build, equipment and skills combined, then there is something terribly wrong with it.
tbh i like everything about this game except their balance choices targetted at weaker builds when strongest ones are 10x better, but even i do not understand honor system and the need for it. just make the mobs harder if u want difficulty, this is just dumb system especially since its forced content
Recommendations to improve the overall experience:

1. Remove the honor system. Why would you introduce one of the most universally hated/despised mechanics from POE1 as a requirement for ascending?

2. Make each floor a separate trial. There is no reason to start floors all over again you have completed successfully previously unless the player actually wants to.

3. Reduce the trap damage by ~20%

4. Add Stash to each room of the trial - not just the final room on each floor.

5. Too many enemy on ground effects you cannot see depending on your build covering the ground in your spell/skill effects. Either remove these from the trials, reduce the damage they cause by ~50% or make them stand out better.

Considering I'm still experiencing frequent random game crashes and freezes, the current ascension trial experience is still punishing to put it politely without using any of the more colorful language I feel like using. I've still not been able to complete my 3rd ascension trial yet despite being level 78 and geared.
