Is movement speed in a good place?
I have played about 60 hrs so far of PoE2 (mostly acting different subclasses to be fair). Also about 2.5k hrs of PoE1 behind my shoulders.
We all veteran players are used to be bound to one of boots prefixes being taken by movement speed and all boots without it being considered trash. But since we are enetring a new era of PoE2, I think we could address this as some kind of an issue. Is it really good for (not even a base, whole slot of items!) to either be trash or have 5 mods instead of 6? Especially being so in this new no-movement-skills-but-huge-locations-PoE game. Now, you could say that not all builds really need high movement speed (lol?), that movement speed proveides you some benefits to dodge hurtfull AoE effects. Well, yes, correct, it actually is a benefit you could discard for more life or defences. But we don't do that anyway, everyone knows that. So I propouse some middle-groud for this situation. I belive movement speed prefixes should be nerfed, top-tier mod being 15% MS or something like that. But we also could have movement speed be an implicit mod for all boots, and that mod could be bigger on more endgame bases, being for example 15% on best bases. In that case you get no-MS boots at the start of your Act1, and at the end of that act you may not have boots with MS prefix, but you still most certantly have something like +2% or +3% that comes from your boots as implicit. And if you want to or you are lucky - your mod can provide more movements speed, like additional 5%. Or your could have more defence/life instead. And as you progress your prefix rolls could get higher, and you are guaranteed to be getting more MS on implicit as you switch to more advanced bases. And at the end, having one of the best bases and highest tier MS roll you are getting the same +35% (or is it 30% now?) MS. But now you can actually choose if you want to have more defence or more MS (which is a defence as well in a sence?) Surely this may requre some balance tweaking, as well as some attacks getting faster to compensate for increased ms of all characters (but since we are all using MS boots anyway do we really need to change that?). Let me know what you think about it, and pass this idea to GGG to consider if you have any ways to do so. Stay sane, Exiles! " Well. You nail it. This has been the case and always will be. |

It's funny how movement speed affects the mind psychologically!
When it's slow and deliberate a game feels quite serious to me. It seems to create more tension - which for a game such as POE2 is no bad thing! When I occasionally jump back into Diablo IV now, it feels more like an arcade-based hack-and-slash designed for kids with Nintendo Switch consoles. The pace of it feels fun-and-lively. To summarise, speed and the mood of a game go hand-and-hand. There's a huge speed buff on the Remodded version of Diablo II - to me it just doesn't feel right. It's not something to be toyed with lightly from my experience of these games. |

movementspeed is the one mandatory stat in this game. it even affects the dodgeroll.
i am not sure about the state of movementspeed. if boots would have that as an implicit it would be in a better state i guess. have epic boots? cool, throw them away if they lack 20%+ ms. thats kinda meh, or play ranger with tailwind. |

" Not saying I'm against keeping things as they where, there is nothing wrong in having this as a mandatory mod. But since we are talking not about some changes to PoE1 balance, but about whole new game: don't you think not having one mod to be mandatory is a good turn? Also keep in mind that in my proposial for you to have the same MS as now you would still have to roll it, it's just the fact of not all deicent boots having that mod is what my sugesstion is aiming for. So (with all possible respect to ways of old!), is there a reason to keep it as it is besides "that is how it was before"? |

I feel it could do with a 10% buff when starting a new character.

Having 20% on boots and some percent within the skill tree.
I,m feeling fine with it. |

" Fair enough. Pretty good point, and for my firts run PoE2 felt really serious. Though I had some 10-15-20 MS boots all the time and I don't think that affected my experience that much, it was still hardcore enough. But I guess here is PoE1/PoE2 experience is much more important then any other game experience, to some degree because of the community. For now if you show your 4-modded boots with good mods (+60 life, +20 of two resistances and some defences) to any experienced PoE1/PoE2 player they will tell you to throw exalt at it in hopes to get movements speed, otherwise those boots not worth it (or just craft it if you are in PoE1). I guess there is not a lot of players who would tell you that those boots are good as they are. So we are living in a world where any good boots have at least 20% MS. If we are aiming to make game slower (which by it's own is not a bad thing, but most likely will have negative feeback based on what community is used to) - we are not achiving this by current means. Everyone still have MS boots, this mod is mandatory. To actually make game slower we have to straith up nerf MS prefix I'm afraid, and that does not sound good I think. To be honest, I think my sugesstion gets us closer to "slow game" in that regard. If you are not set on having all your boots with this MS prefix and you are fine with 10-15% MS from implicit, you are most likely not having 20-30% MS boots as everyone do now. And then you have a choice to either go back to this 30% MS for a cost of a prefix or just keep it at that and play more "slow" build with probably more defences. (This response seems like some kind of a mumbling to be honest, sorry about that) |

" I guess the question is: would you feel fine as well if you had 12-15% instead and then had to choose between having more defences or getting back to your 20% MS? Or would your choice always be MS no matter what you are playing? |

Problem is, movement speed almost never had a disadvantage.
We used to have one: reflect which got crucified on the altar of qol by those who can't stomach their own fuckups age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill! Last edited by vio#1992 on Dec 18, 2024, 6:33:54 AM
