Cant trigger reapers invocation through minions with gravebind

The wording of reapers invocation and gravebind gloves makes it sound like kills from your melee minions could contribute to reaper energy, but this doesnt work.

And they were killed by melee minions not the snipers right?

I tried this only using brutes without any support gems. Doesn't work.
