Too many skill gems tied to weapons

Part of the joy of POE is a high level of playstyle customization. Tying the majority of skills to a weapon lowers that versatility significantly. Why do I need to be wielding a crossbow to place a Ballista totem? I understand it eases the workload for the animators to know what weapon most abilities will be on, but it takes away from the idea that we can feel free to experiment.

I tend to agree but I also like it.

One thing I hope they add once all weapon sets are released are sets of skills that can be used across broader weapon groups.

example:

Blunt (Mace,Quarterstaff,Unarmed,Flail)
Cutting (Axe,Sword)
Piercing (Sword,Spear,Dagger)
Projectile (Bow,Crossbow,Spear)


Just a few skills in each category that can enable certain combos across weapon sets and incentivize weapon swaps that can use the same skill in different ways depending on the weapon using it.

I don't think it should be a priority until they finish their weapon sets but I hope they keep it in mind when designing weapon set skills.
I've said it many times and will say it many times more.
Some skills should:
- Work with two or more weapons (i.e. bow and crossbow or axe and club)
- Work with a group of weapons (i.e. all slashing/ bashing/ stabing)
- Work regardless of weapon (i.e. totems, granades, shouts, shield charge etc.)

A big turn off to me in POE 1 is my detestation for traps, mines, skitterbots, totems, and aura stacking.

Well they fixed it.

Not saying there isn't room for totem support or mines or what have you. But restraint is good. I hope they can find a sober method of adding these things back in the game for the people who like them. Or maybe I'd enjoy them if they were added soberly.
