Reconsider a Seasonal Reset

I agree, starting a new character every league feels bad after spending months building up one character. That is like playing a totally brand new game and starting from scratch. Who would put up with that.
lmao A newbie to POE wanting changes to POE's foundation.

Who tf are you, mate?
People are being toxic because this is quite possibly the worst suggestion ever posted to this forum, and that is saying quite a lot.

Leagues are quite literally the game's primary means of player retention and revenue generation. You are quite explicitly saying GGG should reconsider making money and keeping players engaged.

Look at how PoE's player numbers drop off after the first few weeks of a new league. You think that kind of dropoff is bad? Imagine if there wasn't a new league bringing players back every few months.

Hell, just look at PoE1's current situation. The league is months old already and has several months to go. Player count dropped off a cliff and will only get worse as the weeks go on.

It's very clear from your responses that you simply do not understand ARPGs and especially do not understand how PoE actually makes money. So just drop that ridiculous idea entirely.
Such a polarizing topic on this forum. Perhaps GGG should do an in-game poll and determine how the actual playerbase would feel about this?

Poll Option 1: Would you like all Seasonal Mechanics to be available to everyone?
Poll Option 2: Should you need to make a new character to experience Seasons?

Or better yet;

Poll Option 1: Should Early Access characters immediately convert to Standard?
Poll Option 2: Should none of your Early Access character progress matter?

…because that’s where we’re at.

What are you talking about?

Leagues are what GGG have made them, and would continue to be even if they were accessible to everyone. Games do soft-resets all of the time by increasing gear-score and scaling enemies. Look at Diablo II and Lord of Destruction… ARPGs have been doing this forever to open doors to content post-progression. It would require minimal effort to temporarily increase the cap GS and then proceed to crunch it back down after season’s end, or to give Standard players the ability to farm seasonal endgame loops without needing to create an alt, a simple delay would be fine for everyone.

By pointing at seasonal player fall-off, you’ve done nothing but confirm the current model of resetting does not retain players. People do not stick around for it, they do not care for it, and if they’re not playing the game, they are not having a flashy microtransaction shop in their face. That’s the truth of it.

Instead of introducing a new path to max level and one endgame gearing loop each season, if they introduced new systems that the entire playerbase could take part in, repeatable fun, and that’s the key word, fun, content… it would solve the player retention problem.
lol what you ask for is basically to turn PoE into an MMORPG instead of an ARPG.

Leagues are why people come back to the game. You play for a week / couple of weeks and you wait for the next league. That is what adds re-playability to the game.

If you want to play 1 character only you either play standard or you play MMORPGs, period.

This is not up to discussion imo. People play this genre to rotate between seasonal games.

What player retention problem? GGG made $20mmm profit last year, and made $20mm revenue last week. The people who can afford supporter packs don't no-life games. They play awhile, do stuff in real life, play other games, then play PoE again. I think you're used to games that try to capture every moment of your attention. That isn't the only successful business model, and it isn't the most healthy model for the player.

I see a lot of people going basically it's the way it is because that was how it has been, but I'm not sure that can cut it. The structure of POE 2 is a lot closer to a more traditional action RPG especially in regard to campaign length, time required to acquire ideal gear, max level, and boss difficulty.

I think if they are going to continue with the seasons they will have to really take a hard look at how they space it out and implement it because if it follows the same time frame and parameters as I can imagine people rapidly burning out.

Repetition is a lot more attractive when you can do it quickly, but I don't see it having appeal if it's like a 20+ hour campaign you need to try and speedrun every time.
I hope they do at least 4 month leagues. I don't know how anyone with a job is supposed to get anywhere in PoE in the time we are given. Plus 4 months gives them time to actually test shit, so the league doesn't need so many fixes in the first week lol.

people have mentioned "POE1, D4, LE" does seasonal content.

but i want to point out LE does something different. in their temp league, its the same as others. start fresh. complete challenges etc.

but for their "standard"/permanent league, they get too experience the league content too!

like how the fucking awesome is that? you dont need to reroll, you dont need to waste time. and its exactly like how you said it. if i m attached to my character and gear/wealth, starting from scratch is something I DONT WANT to do.

LE solves this so beautifully. the caveat is the end game league content such as league specific bosses are LOCKED behind temp league progress. if players in the temp league have not killed the boss in the temp league, access to the boss is restricted in standard league. in other words until ANYONE playing on the temp league kills the temp league boss, standard league players have NO ACCESS to this boss. but once a temp leaguer has accomplished this, standard players can now enjoy the league content fully on standard.

Hmmm not really, it worked out like that because the only content they had to add in the first cycle was a single boss so they could try and create a bit of hype with a streamer race to kill it. It wasn't a season boss - it was a permanent addition to the game like Shaper, Elder, Sirus, Maeven etc. and all those were added to standard at the same time as leagues in POE. As yet LE doesn't have any league model, seasonal content, challenges etc. New cycle is just a reset and that is it.

Hi, here is a great source of knowledge, and that would give you a lot of context about what you are playing here.

I suggest you watch the bigger part of it, it's great education.
Nonetheless, the answer to your question is at 16:05.

Have fun.
