Feedback from lvl 85 Infernalist
I have been playing a lot on the last few days and I am enjoying the game. I have probably around 1k hours on POE 1, so I didn't start the game completely blind. I will give my feedback on a few topics.
Game Pace The game feels a lot slower, and for me that's great. Before maps, you can mostly understand whats going on around you and have time to react. My deaths (before maps) all felt like it was somehow my fault for not reacting on time. Campaign: The campaign is currently the best part of the game. The boss fights are great and challenging. I died a few times on most bosses (on some, like Act 1 final boss, I died several times), but it never felt like the bosses were unkillable. My build was not OP until maps but it was also not a complete mess, still most bosses took several minutes. I imagine to some new players, that have no idea how to build a character, the campaign might be way too hard. Also, Act 3 felt like it was too long, mainly because some of the maps are huge mazes. Ascension Trials It is hard for me to tell how difficult the first and second trial are, since I was using a ranged build and I already knew how those trials worked. But the third and forth trial are really hard. I am not quite sure what GGG was going for with those trials. In POE 1, ascension is a natural evolution of your character. It was a granted power increase that was needed to do harder content. In poe 2, the third and fourth ascensions feel like a rare drop, if you manage to do it, great, otherwise, you will have to do without it. The main problem I see with that is that Ascendencies do not seem to be balanced around players having only the first 4 points. I think that at least the first 3 trials should come more naturally to the players. Infernalist The Infernalist felt like a second character Ascendancy. All the options for the first two points, besidea the Hellhound, are bad or unpickable. Pyromantic Pact basically one shots you since you won't have not nearly enough fire res for it to be good. Grinning Immolation has the same problem. Altered Flesh does almost nothing with low fire and chaos res. Demonic Possession needs life regen to work. Don't get me wrong, Infernalist is a very strong ascendancy, but you can only use its power with gear and lots of passive points. Also, It feels weird that witch has two ascendencies that have so many limitations with Chaos Inoculation. Bloodmage can't get it, and several of the Infernalist passives don't work with CI (I know that altered flesh is great with CI, but you can't even get the points after it). Also, CI matches the sacrifice theme on Infernalist, it should work better with the passives. Maps End game felt a lot like poe1. On maps, even T16, you just run around exploding everything as fast as you can. Most of the time, you can't even see what types of enemies you are facing. Also, just like poe 1, sometimes you die to some "bullshit", like AoE that you can't see, minions exploding after they die or being instantly surrounded when you start a breach or dellirium. There is no time to react, those things just kill you before you realize whats going on. Maybe there should be less enemies, but more dangerous? Also, bosses are still great on maps, if it was possible, I would do only maps with bosses. End Game Content It takes too long to get to pinnacle bosses. This huge farm almost forces players to watch youtube videos of the fights before starting one, since it takes so long to farm and you have only one try. Conclusion Over all, I don't think the game needs as much changes as some of the players have been voicing. The end game, especially maps, need to more aligned with the resto of the game, in my opinion. But besides that, most changes should be balancing and adding more content. I understand the recent nerfs (my first build was CoF), but maybe those nerfs should be more gradual. I feel that CoF and CoC got even stronger on bosses, but were nerfed way too hard on normal minions. Keep the good work, GGG. Can't wait for the new classes and ascendancy. For those wondering, I started as a Cold infernalist using CoF and CoC and switched to DD and Skeleton Brute after the nerfs. Last bumped on Dec 16, 2024, 3:20:55 PM

I've been playing an Infernalist up to about level +70 and I mostly agree with all of this.
I would add that the witch preview showcases a chaos/debuff playstyle that is not currently supported by any of the witch ascendancies, which has led to unhappy times for some of my friends (that started this game without prior PoE time). I fully expect the missing 3rd ascendancy to interact with debuffs (curses/essence drain) in some way, but currently that's a big bait for players.
