Removable Runes

While I understand you want make our decisions have weight, I think having permanent runes makes players more scared to use them. Since they are permanent, more players will wait longer to socket them because they don't want to end up in a situation where the runes they socket are no longer beneficial.

For example. Lets say I get a new piece of gear and I have max resistances with it equiped. Maybe I would like to socket extra life to give it a little boost. However, almost 100% of time with the current system, it is going to end up hurting me in the future. Because if I get a new piece of gear, lets say jewelry, and with this new gear, I'm missing a little bit of resist. Because I socketed that piece of gear earlier with life, I can't just socket in more resistance.

What ends up happening is that instead of people using it often while lvling and progressing through the game they will just leave the sockets empty so that they can benefit the most from them in the future when they're almost fully geared.

If instead, we can talk to an NPC to remove and destroy the rune in the socket, the sockets now have a lot more fexilibity not only at endgame but through the whole leveling and progression of the game. Players would be more likely to use them more often through out the game knowing that they can replace them if needed.

tldr; Put in a system to remove runes so they can be replace.

You also don't get back your various crafting orbs after using them. You simply find new ones. Same with runes. It should stay that way.

I'd be very happy if I could overwrite old runes, deleting the old ones when putting new ones in

Nobody was talking about getting the runes back, its simply a matter of being able to remove/overwrite which is a feature the should have been in the game from beginning especially with the very limited access to crafting. Even a 25 year old game (diablo 2) has this feature and nobody cares if the runes are destroyed in the process, besides it would be a great rune sink since they are really common and dont see much use since people are too afraid of using the wrong ones

In POE1 I had 2 solutions for managing resistances on gear.

1. I could bench craft
2. I could buy a piece of gear that had a type of resistance I didn't want and Harvest craft alter the res type.. i.e. Change any cold res to fire res.

The flexibility allowed us to swap gear without a huge amount of friction.

If Runes are to solve the same category of problems, they need to be given flexibility as well.

Or just bring back bench crafting and have Runes be the currency used.
yes, we should be able to overwrite runes, the design atm is stupid and boring
