+1 for this,
Completed a level 67 one with 7 trials, no ascendancy points

Strangely, reading Ascendancy's info gives some wrong information too, it claims set 1 is achieved from floor 1 of Sekhema and 7 trials in ToC, but the first quest is 1 floor and 4 trials in ToC
Then, it claims the other set is achieved through two floors of Sekhema, but that's not true either, it's achieved through 3 from level 60 Barya's and above. 7 Trials and 2 bosses should give you another set, but it doesn't
How I think ascendancies work,
To get two ascendancy points you either have to do a trial you have not done yet at all during campaign
or do a trial you have already done with the apropriate difficulty.
Meaning each trial has 4 tiers and you need to do a trial of the
tier 1 for points 1+2,
tier 2 for points 3+4,
tier 3 for points 5+6
and tier 4 for points 7+8.
So once the full game is there you usualy get your points 1-6 from the 3 trials you do during campaign, and then in endgame you pick one of them and do it at tier 4.
Lacking the 3rd option right now, you need to do a Tier 3 version of the trials for your points 5+6
so that means either Sekhemas (Sanctum) with 3 Floors or Chaos (Ultimatum) with 10 floors.
edit the Tiers for Sekhemas are straight forward
Tier 1 = 1 floor
Tier 2 = 2 floors
Tier 3 = 3 floors
Tier 4 = 4 floors
For Chaos its not as obvious,
Tier 1 = 4 floors
Tier 2 = 7 floors
Tier 3 = 10 floors
Tier 4 = ? the numbers would suggest 13 floors, but duno
Aye, so I did read it a bit more and you're more or less correct now that I've done a deep dive.
Basically, the ascendancies are an EITHER/OR option for each set.
So basically if you don't want to do ANY Trial of Sekhemas, you can do JUST ToC. However, if you HAVE done Sekhemas, it removes that tier from your equation.
Meaning THIS IS NOT A BUG, but a mass misunderstanding for us. Details below;
---
SO
Set 1 = EITHER 1 floors of Sekhemas - OR 7 trials in ToC
^---
Completing Set 1 by doing Floor 1 of Sekhemas removes ascendancy gain from 7 trials in ToC (This is why we are not able to get ascendancy points from 7 trials. We have done floor 1 of Sekhemas)
Set 2 = EITHER 2 floors of Sekhemas - OR 4 trials in ToC
^---
Completing Set 2 by doing 4 trials in ToC removes ascendancy gain from 2 floors of Sekhemas (This is why we didn't get ascendancy points from the 2 floor coins. That wasn't a bug either. We did the ToC quest)
Set 3 = EITHER 3 floors of Sekhemas - OR 10 trials in ToC
^---
This is where we're at. If you're at 4 points of ascendancy by completing ToC and Sekhemas, go do your 3 floor Baryas at level 60 and above, or wait for a 10 trial ToC and you'll get your 2 points
Set 4 = EITHER 4 floors of Sekhemas - OR secret door in ToC
^---
This is what we need if we've done our 3 floors of Sekhemas. My recommendation is the 4 floors of Sekhemas. Stack Honour Resistance like crazy and Honour Restore or Maximum Honour. Here you'll get your final 2 Ascendancy Points
Hopefully this makes more sense to everyone, cause once I understood it I had a big "Oooooooh" moment, bahaha
