About elemental damage penetrating the energy shield

Certain monster projectiles form elemental damage in ground circles and can ignore shields. But, I thought only Chaos damage could penetrate the energy shield. I have a video, but I can't upload it here.

Have you reported it as a bug OR grabbed any in-game descriptions of what was going on??
