Cold Snap payoff too small
Just got to cruel difficulty and my thoughts on cold snap so far on using exclusively ice spells with a sorc is that the payoff for consuming the frozen status off enemies is kinda weak. If it had the same damage numbers as comet since it doesn't have the cast time would give me more of a reason to use it. With all the benefits of gaining extra damage while they are frozen consuming the frozen effect with cold snap seems to result in slower times to kill rather then keeping them frozen and just using heavier hitting skills safely.
This might change once i get access to third tier support gems. But until then its just an unused skill that doesn't really payoff. Edit; Just got tier 3 support gems. Bitting Frost can make a skill consume freeze for 50% more damage. Makes any spell become cold snap but better. Though noticed quality on cold snap gives it a chance to not consume the freeze which might be a fun rng gamble. But only 10% chance at 20% quality. I use it for clear because it has much faster cast speed than Comet, but for larger bosses it is just bad to give up potentially 2 Comet Casts+Safety for 1 Cold Snap cast.

if i've got a group of frozen enemies clustered, I tend to drop a frost bomb instead of using coldsnap, it seems to be much faster.
but I agree, that cold-snap doesn't really have a good pay off. |
