You nailed shields.
![]() I wish the animation of raising my shields was a bit more noticeable, but as it stands the mechanic is perfection. This is how shields are meant to be. I do have to ask... why did you guys go for a "salvage bench mechanic" instead of a shield repair mechanic ? I would 1000% drop the salvaging for scraps mechanic in favor of a shield repair mechanic. Why? We constantly use our shields, they work, you see them working, so every time you are saved by your shield and it needs repairing it's something you would do with love. Like maintaining your precious tools or home. It takes care of you, you take care of it. It creates a bond. Salvaging for scraps? who cares. This way you don't have to nerf the mechanic of raising shields and instead you can fine tune which attacks have a high break your stance and eventually your shield. Other games have pulled this off... who knows? it might work... give it the good old internal testing. Last bumped on Dec 14, 2024, 12:42:46 PM

Shields are great.
At the same time, i'm surprised there's only one node that i'm seeing on the tree related to stagger, the one that lowers the stagger recovery when lowered. They made an entire mechanic and bar for shields and they aren't going to add more nuance to it? Seems weird. For that matter, I wish the stagger bar was in a more visible position than where they have it as well. |

" Agreed, I find it impossible to see the stagger bar when holding up a shield on controller UI. Also agree that the shield raise animation should be more noticeable, visual clarity in general with this game could use some improvements in a few spots. Maybe they could have some kind of effect occur with health orb, like maybe have artwork of a shield partially cover it kind of like the energy shield does in POE 1 when you have a lot of it available So this but instead of blue energy its some kind of shield artwork, like half of a shield popping out from the right and stopping in the middle edit: heck you could have it function as the stagger meter as well and have the shield artwork get visibly damaged as you lose stagger Last edited by EchoVisor#7775 on Dec 14, 2024, 8:48:20 AM

" Why in hell you worried of them nerfing shields? Almost no one is using shields as most people are still with old POE1 focus of max DPS. They just buffed shields in fact. |

Yea Krip and Ziz said this was silly and I have to agree walking around with a minion build and just holding heavy block is something that needs to be looked at.

" I suspected people would argue it's "over tuned" and in typical GGG fashion it would get nerfed until it's unusable and then slowly propped up over decades if they decide to keep it. Idk this but, poe2warrior says: " How does it feel to use a shield? When advancing: ![]() When getting swarmed by multiple packs (no tough elites): ![]() The only time the shield is "meh" it's when fighting bosses... but hey I started to play POE2 a day ago. Even though the mechanic is not 100% OP and it does have down sides I fully enjoy the feel of it. |

Its gonna get looked at lol its beyond ridiculous. You dont get to just stay safe with heavy block and your minions do all the damage.
Enjoy it while it lasts |

" Safe? Far from it. Kripp is far ahead of me in the game and he says he still gets 1 shotted. So, safe? nah. I'm losing out on clear speed, movement speed, damage, and more just to raise my shield and pretend that I'm fighting in the shade for just a second or two. Then I have to back off to the rear guard and re-summon SRS. |

I agree that they nailed the shield. It feels great and also the resonating shield feels and sounds so good.
The repair mechanic though, I don't like it. It felt tedious in the Diablo games. I don't want to go back just to repair my equipment. I'm in Cruel Act 1 using Shield Charge as a main damager so Im all about shields. I wish they add more shield skills though. There is a shield crush skill in POE1. I hope they add it soon. |
