Penalties for dying in a map.

I died 4 times in a row and then started to think about this. So ...

PoE1 death in a map

* Lose 10% exp
* Lose 1 portal out of 6

PoE2 death in a map

* Lose 10% exp
* Lose the map
* Lose all the investment in the map

All the bonus content on the node

* Lose the Boss encounter
* Lose the Rituals
* Lose the Delirium
* Lose the Expedition encounter
* Lose anything on the node ofc
* Lose the Precursor tablet investment in that map

Makes you think ...

Also the nonexistent exp if you do T10 (74 zone) as a lvl 84. 1-2% per map. Im not even 90 ....

Yeah, well, it should make you think that maybe you shouldn't die in this game, huh? There is actual risk involved when running map in PoE2 and it is a a good thing. They just need to make sure enemies are balanced, visual clarity is improved and probably need to redesign some of the PoE1 league content. But that's what EA is for.

How is that much different from Hardcore ?

Considering you don't have to make new character after you die I'd say it's pretty different. It's not even comparable.

You character does not get DELETED if you die in hardcore. It gets MOVED with all its gear to a parent league. You still lose all the investment and content.
Even to a bit of an advanced, non HC player like myself there is not that big of a difference in loss.

Its not a "Got sent to the void" map(yet)

I doubt they'll be able to make the concept of 1 portal per map work in the end.

There's also not much reason to make it work. PoE and PoE2 in particular are about optimizing the speed at which you can progress. People that are dying often are not the people that need to be targeted with hindered progression.

I doubt there would be significant downsides to just reinstating the 6 portals per map.

If they do want people to be rewarded for using less portals they can give a magic find bonus to players for each remaining portal.

Why exactly is it a good thing? What does that risk serve other than to waste other peoples time even more severally than poe 1 does? I already got 3 friends quitting on me because the problem OP listed as well as numerous other factors of EA.

That's a bad faith argument. Being moved to standard is effectively being deleted. You lost character in the league you play, you lost all you equipped items and all items in your inventory from the league you play.
delete, wrong person quoted

You're wrong. Removing or reducing penalty for dying means people no longer need to invest into defenses and can just go full glass cannon like PoE1. This has to be avoided at all costs. You can still go glass cannon but now there is a huge cost to that, meaning that you pay for much higher speed with lower rate of success.
